The reason I'm looking for a mat-type thing to put in there is because I'm worried they aren't tall enough inside and I don't want to take up much space on the bottom with straw or hay... but on the other hand I want a soft cushion for the eggs so they won't crack.

These mats would fit inside the nest boxes perfectly and they appear to be long-lasting. Do you think they would be suitable?

It ought to work fine! I'm just wondering what the hens will do to it. You know how they like to scratch around in their nests!

Those are horribly expensive and wouldn't clean very well. I use plastic nest pads that I purchased from http://www.cutlersupply.com/cart/in...ducts_id=682&zenid=qn890jh6opovo845hkptebo9l4 and they work great for a lot less money. Those grass ones you would be replacing before much time has passed.
