Tell me why you keep Roosters...

Is there any quiet breeds of roosters that are nice looking and dont crow too much? ( becouse I live in a Neighborhood)
I'm not sure exactly why, but every time I get Easter Egger roosters, they never crow. I have three young but mature EE roos right now and they are quiet as can be. Before these boys, I had another EE roo that wouldn't crow either. I'm not sure if it was because there were other dominant roosters. All I know is that he did all sorts of rooster-y things (showing hens to food, mating, argue with other roosters, etc) but he'd never crow.

This is just something I've noticed, though. I can't say it'd be true for all EE roosters.

I have a couple EE roos and I never gave it a thought about them not crowing. They are extremely quiet compared to my couple mix breed and my barred rock roo (constant noise maker).

I currently have 3, 5 month old roos. I have not gotten around to turning 2 into soup. I also have 2 more chicks that are roos. one I will keep, the other? we will see.

One of my EE's turned out to be a roo. He loves to crow. When every one of my family goes out back where he is he crows. My wife said the other night she heard him crowing in the coup in the middle of the night. Luckily I'm a heavy sleeper!

My little sablepoot is like a feathered foghorn!!!
For his little size he certainly belts out his crows :)

I have raised chicks this year and have 4 or more roos in the flock which I will keep...They are a mix of silkies, wyandottes, and I suspect a Hamburg is a male too - no idea how noisy they'll be, but I'm a fan of them so if all else fails earplugs will save me haha !!

while each rooster has their own peronality, my EE roosters never shut up. I have had a few quite ones but way more loud ones and i have raised the breed for years.

I've been pretty lucky, I guess, haha!

For whatever reason, every single EE rooster I got has been the silent type. They'll cluck for food and make a ruckus over fighting hens, but they never crow. I think I just hit the jackpot, hehe!
