Tell Us About Yourself

Name: grandbaby calls me Grammu
Birthday: January 5

Hometown: Born in Long Beach CA, grew up half in Anaheim and half in Okla. Realized last week that soon I will have spent 1/2 of my life in Oregon
Current Residence: see above
Relationship Status: Married to John, designer, composer, artist, luthier

Religious Views: A Baha'i for almost 30 years. I absolutely love people of all different religions and races. We have a whole lot more in common than we have differences!

Political Views: it is against Baha'i law to be involved in partisan or divisive politics in any way. I vote my gut.

Activities: Unpaid private Editor (I get credit, just no cash jobs...yet!) Volunteer Coordinator of three digital proofreading teams - English, Spanish and Chinese (about 60 people based all over the world, 94% of whom I've never met and never will). I apply XML Markup to the digital texts.

Interests: Tropicals and Lavender (Hoyas are my faves!). Our grandbaby - the joy of my life and main reason for trying to stay alive. Music - listening, composing, singing. Reading pretty much anything with a cover, especially tech-oriented sci-fi. Movie buff.

Favorite Music: Pandora Radio! Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, Jeff Buckley, James Blunt, Miles Davis, Blues, Unkie Bob, Harry Connick Jr., Daniel Powter, 3 Doors Down, Creed, Ray Lamontayne, O Brother type of music. Just realized there are no female singers in there, but if I had to choose - Nina Gordon, Bonnie Raitt, Sarah McLauchlan, Susan Tedeschi...

Favorite TV Shows: Don't actually watch TV, but rent videos of most of the series. Fave changes every year - right now Desperate Housewives and Prison Break.

Favorite Movies: Comedies, O Brother Where Art Thou, any movie with huge laughs and great music.

Favorite Books: Sci-fi. Funny books. Interesting, not boring historical novels.

About Me: Humor is pretty much my thing - I love to laugh long & loud. I love teasing and a wry or dry sense of humor. I love to play with language.

I don't want any more pain or awful things in my life, and don't ever want to cause pain. I believe we cause most of our own problems through simple ignorance. "If I'd known what was going to happen, I never would have... (fill in the blank)". If I could only go back knowing what I know now! But then, I've learned the most valuable things of my existence through suffering.

I believe this world is a school for our souls - the virtues we learn here are the only things we can take with us. I believe there are myriad worlds of God, and our souls will travel to all of them as we progress closer and closer to God. I love interesting food. I believe music is a spiritual language. I try to find something to love in every person I come across unless they scare me or are clearly and deliberately mean. Then I run away.

There is not enough real love between individuals in this world.

Tori,
I love your pictures! My husband and I want to come to Alaska sooooo badly. He wants to take the boys hunting and I want to fish. But, after living in the south my whole life, I sure don't know if I could handle all that snow...

About Me: I'm female, and I'm tall. My DH is shorter than me. I used to be insecure about being tall but got over it in college. Being tall sucks because its hard to find inexpensive pants and cute shoes to fit my long legs and my size 9.5-10 feet. By the way, my DH and I have the same size feet. He thinks it's hilarious.

I'm a perfectionist, very organized and a huge worrier at times. I like to plan ahead and don't like uncertain futures. I'm self-confident; I'm not afraid to get up in front of other people and talk. I play fair with passing judgment or assigning consequences, even if it means that a decision I make hurts someone I like (I've found this quality makes my life a LOT easier in my job because I treat everyone the same). I'm not afraid to be proud of the things I'm interested in, even if some of the things I like (weather, chickens) might seem weird to others (obviously not on BYC). I adore good penmanship.

I love the fall and winter holiday seasons. I decorate my house and like having traditional activities and events that happen for each holiday from year to year.

I have a very weird and active imagination for an adult. I think I'd scare some of my relatives and friends with the bizarre things I imagine. My goal one day is to write a fantasy or science fiction book.

I want my Ph.D. so that people can call me doctor without me having to cut anyone else up. I'm more than halfway to this goal.

I get annoyed by things like slow drivers and ugly websites. I like meetings with less socializing and more work getting done; I like to get to the point so that I can get out the door.

If you become my friend, I will be extremely loyal, though not naive. If I'm betrayed, I'm not quick to forgive. I am not quick to show anger, although I will speak my mind if I feel the need to. I prefer the "tough and cool" approach to "angry and out of control."

I love chickens and hate dogs. I'll eat Brussels sprouts, beets and spinach, but despise onions, celery and cooked peppers. My favorite color used to be blue, but I think anymore I'm just into earth tones. I'd love to have an orange Saturn Vue, but had to settle for a green one.

I hate living in the city, dislike my neighbors' obnoxious kids, and can't wait to move so that I only have to live around people I like.
