My Silkie is, simply put, quite stupid. That being said, I still love her, so don't take that the wrong way. I liken her to be the Silkie counterpart to Nambroth's Derperella.
Ever since the day she laid her first egg, her favorite place to lay has been under the lime tree. I have to keep a plastic egg in her nesting box year-round as a constant reminder of where to lay, because, otherwise... to the lime tree she goes. I did a test on her after a week of keeping the fake egg there, and took it away. I watched in amusement as she waddled over to her favorite lime tree and promptly laid her egg at it's base instead of in the nestbox. She also once laid an egg in my lap.
She's the worst broody on the face of the earth. I can pet her and cuddle her while she's sitting on eggs. Silkies are notorious for being vicious broody hens, mind you.
The door of the chicken coop opens inward, not out. If it swings open, she gets trapped behind the door, while all of the other chickens hurriedly bolt outside for the lawn. Every time.
If I show anything to her, she must stand there and observe the object closely, with an unblinking focus, for five minutes, churring softly as her eyes twitch from being held open so long. The object can be anything from an ear of corn to something as simple as her own egg.
She does not bawk or cluck. The closest description one could possibly attribute to the sound she makes is hoarse opera singing.
She naps on the night perch during the day and sleeps in her nestbox at night, ignoring that all of the other chickens sleep on the night perch.
She would much rather spend valuable foraging time 'dustbathing' on the rug than eating grass with the others.
All in all, she's a very odd little bird.
