At what age is it possible to tell what gender your ducklings are? What things am I looking for to tell the girls from the boys? Does those things differ from breed to breed that I should be looking for? Right now my ducklings are rather young but I have 2 One week old Crested Magpies, 2 One week old Khaki Campbell (one is much darker), and 2 Two day old Pekins.

There are some differences that are breed related, for instance some have the drake with differing colouring, as well as drake curls a feather that appears by the tail and in the case of Muscovy it's all about size.

For most mallard derived ducks however by 4-5 wks you start hearing voice differences, drakes almost start to 'loose' their voice as females start to gain theirs and become louder.

By about a month old(so 4wks) my pekin starting becoming loud and then as each week followed moreso.. i ended up with a single drake out of a half dozen(yes, a small miracle, this was a SR) my drake barely utters a noise.. it's a very raspy, gravel sounding tone.
