For breeding many use Gamebird starter from hatch to breeding to dispatch.

It tends to get a little opinionated. I would switch to a lower protein as they mature since they don't need the boost. I don't have maintenance unless I order so I mix in finch seeds to the gamebird starter

They lay like crazy under this diet (oh and the oyster shells too) but others use Gamebird starter. 24% is ideal for breeding in my opinion.


Many brands have different percentages of protein as well. I am going to check out southern states as Purina seems to be lacking lately.

I also use a feed store that carries Southern State products. I check with them the next time I go in.
I have been mixing some oyster shell in their sand boxes and they seem to love it.

Does the finch seed bring the protein level down a bit ?
