as chicks don't know difference between bedding shavings and crumbs they eat the shavings as its easer for them than to go to the feeder as its right there where they lay
as wood is hard and doesn't digest well, it pastifies
this in turn cause constipation and gets stuck to bum
remove the shaving
I never use shaving but only a rubber mat for grip and never once had pasty butt
