I have a digital thermometer and humidity reader on it it says the temp is 96.6 but on the one that came with my bator it reads 100 with it laying on top of the eggs i just got the digital thermometer for the humidity whicj=h one should i go buy the eggs are on day 12 and they all are growing just fine and are on time so which one is the best to go by

the temp now on the digital thermomiter is 97.2 and 32 for humidity should i trust the temp on the digital or the thermomiter that came with the bator that is laying on top of the eggs the digital is not laying on the eggs but is sitting up on the floor of the bator

I bought a digital thermometer and i had the same problem. After I noticed the difference between the digital and the regular old fashion one on top of the eggs I stuck with the one on the eggs because I used that one before and it was reliable. I would say go with the one thermometer that is on top of the eggs, especially if you have used it before and had good hatch rates

Even in a fan assisted bator the temp will be different at different levels inside it. I didn't realise this until I found out that my hatches were always running late because my thermometer (supplied and fitted to the incubator by the manufacturer) was badly placed, too high above the eggs. It was reading high so I had turned my temp down, and the actual temps at egg level had been a couple of degrees low.

Put both the thermometers at the same level and see what they say. Could be they'll be nearly the same. If one is lying on the floor it's bound to be reading a lower temperature. I set my thermometer so that the bulb bit that measures the temperature is just slightly below the level of the tops of my eggs, which are lying on their sides. That way I know I'm measuring the actual temperature inside the eggs.

What kind of bator do you have anyway?

I have a HovaBator this is my first time to hatch i bout the digital for the humidity part not really fo the temp but i started to greak when the temps were different also i noticed when i candled the a few days ago that some were on the day they are suppose to and others were not but they were living and moving and bouncing around and they were placed in the bator at the same time the humidity is at 45% was told it needed to be between 40 and 50 and when i lock them down increase it to 55 - 60%

I just received a digital thermometer that I purchased mainly for the humidity reader also... Haven't loaded the incubator yet but I noticed that the thermometer that comes with the incubator and the digital that I just got are two to three degrees off (i just have them in my garage... temp on one is 57.5 and the other one reads 59) Very frutrating because I know that having temp the temp just right is very important...
