Yesterday was day 16 on 9 precious serama eggs, because it was sooo hot in the house my DH decided to put the air on right after i took the eggs out of the turner and bumped up the humidity. I had no choice but to barely bump up the temps seeing as they dropped to 95 degrees! This morning i woke up and checked the temps in the bator and my heart sunk! The temps had spiked to 105

He had shut off the air before he went to bed, i'm guessing that is what did it because i barely turned the dial to up the temps and not enough to make it shoot up that high. The sad part is i don't know how long they were at that temp. I turned the temp down and grabbed one egg to see if there was ANY movement (just candled them yesterday before i took them out of the turner and all was fine) No movement in the one egg whatsoever . Have i just killed my babies?

I have a homade inc with no thermostat, just a light. I adjust the temp by stuffing cotton balls in holes in the top, which takes a lot of monitering. It spikes often during the night and while I;m at work, and I can still see movement in some Serama eggs, which are due today or tomorrow. I kept temp/RH records, and I caught this batch over 102 about nineteen times, with 5-10 recordings a day. Remember that the core of the egg is not the same temp as the ambient air unless it is stable. If the temperature was rising, the inside of the egg hadn't made it that far yet. Maybe you could move the incubator to a closet or room that is not affected by the climate. Keep a close eye on it, and good luck for the remainder of your wait!

Thanks so much for the response catwalk. I'm afraid its too late for these eggs, when i grabbed the one to candle it it was really hot to the touch so im pretty sure the internal temps were also 105

However miracles do happen so i will wait a day or 2 longer. Today is only day 17. I'm sooo mad at my DH for turning on and off the air and not telling me, I have told him this will mess the temps in the bator up. That was the only room in the house where i could put them and have everything stay stable, Things were great up until yesterday, 99-100 consistantly with 40% humidity. Now humidity is 65% which is where i want it and the temps went down to 98, hopefully i can get them to stabalize before i go to work this morning

. I don't have a good feeling about it. My LG is hard to stabalize

I messed with the lighting on day 20 for my first hatch, which was down to three eggs since I tripped over the bator and broke the rest. When I got home from work, the temp was 117! Can you believe one made it out (with help)? He's now the biggest of all the chicks his age.

Stick with them since you are this close, spikes will lower your hatch rate, but you may still have some chicks, though they probably will be roosters.

BTW 95 is ok on the bottom of the swing, this normally happens when a broody hen gets off their eggs and the weather is cool. Set your bator for 100 at the warmest part of the day and leave it alone after that. Your hatch rates will skyrocket. I had a power outage last week temp dropped to 82, only had two eggs in to hatch but they both hatched. Cool is better then too hot.

Thanks you guys, I agree with you walkingwolf, Id rather have the temps too low than too high. Great just what i need more roosters!!! Thanks for the insight guys i really really appreciate it.
