Hi all. We recently started incubating our own eggs. We bought the Janoel12 incubator and we got 4 new chicks from there! We set another batch, but also bought another similar incubator (the Hatchmate). We bought a pair of hydrometers to keep an eye on the humidity levels. The hydrometers record temperature as well. Upon placing them in the Hatchmate incubator, it showed a temperature difference of 5°. The hydrometers read 95° and the incubator said it was at 100°. I’m unsure which measurement to trust, I really want to give my chicks the best shot possible. Does anybody have any advice on which temperature to trust?

Do you mean the red numbers on top of the bator? Do not trust those at all. Go with what your little ones say. Can you put both the hydrometers in the same incubator right next to each other and see how similar the readings are?

I have a still air incubator that was only about $40 from a local farm supply store. It has a built-in thermometer AND hygrometer, both of which I would not trust. The thermometer is as much as 20 degrees off sometimes. use an extra thermometer and hygrometer that can be trusted. They can get expensive, but I wouldn't trust the cheap, styrofoam incubators to give you a good reading. good luck!
