Ok thank you:) will i be able to turn off the heat lamp during a hot day because it is a tree house with felt on it!?

I go by how the chicks are acting. I brood in my barn, and it's usually cooler there. I just put new babies in and they're staying right under the lamp a fair amount of time, so I'll leave it for a few days at least. The chicks that are just a few days older aren't under the light at all, so once the littles are older I'll probably turn the light off during the day, just watch them and see if they're under the light or avoiding it.

Hi. Okay! On my incubator instructions, it says that the temp has to be 38.2 for the first 1-6 days and 38.0 for the next 7-14 days. I stupidly got it wrong and had them on 38.0 for the first 1-6 days and now seeing as it's the seventh day. I've left them on 38.0.. Do you think they'll be okay? Or what can I do to insure they are??

That's less than 0.5 F degrees difference. My incubator is not that consistent at maintaining temp and mine live just fine. They'll be fine.

Thanks :D one more question.. I have chicks that are 20 days old and eggs that are due to hatch in 5 days time. I know I can't mix them but what should I do with the older ones whilst the younger one are in the brooder??

Hi, I would move them to another another brooder if possible. Are your 20 day old ones still using heat? I know it's more expense but having two brooders or heat sources is always a good option. I have three for varying ages and birds. They start off in small box with Brinsea Eco glow brooder on lowest setting. Then they move into larger guinea pig cage with Eco glow moved up to next height. Then out to garage in a pen with heat lamp gradually moving up. Then outside into coop and run. I do over a period of six weeks during spring and summer. Hope this helps and is always best to plan well ahead.:frow
