Temporary coop?

i need ideas for a temporary coop and run- our permanant one is taking longer than we thought it would, and my chicks are outgrowing the brooder...

Get some 5' tall hog wire and line the bottom edge with chicken wire (so they can't get out). Place the wire in a circle large enough to hold your chickens, cover with a blue tarp to protect from predators. I added some 1 quart hamster bottles so they wouldn't be spilling water all day. Put some feeders in there. And I only had 6 birds so I put them in a large dog kennel at night so the skunks wouldn't get them.

Considering that you're more in the desert than me, in the Midwest, you'll probably want to put a floor in this, lay down hardware cloth (to prevent snakes--we don't have your kind of snakes in IL), and put the "tent" on top of cinder blocks, for greater airflow. You will have leftover plywood, and you could make a partial wall and ladder with the leftovers.

This project could be completed in 3 hours, INCLUDING the paint job. (Mine took longer, 'cause I'm not a great builder and I put on 3 coats of paint everywhere.)

Materials (incl. a floor)
(2) 4 x 8, 3/8in or 1/2in plywood
(1) 8 ft. 2 x 2
(2) 6 ft. 1 x 2's
(4) 6 in (leftover) 2 x 4's (to support the tent bottoms)
Screws:
(10) to attached ridge pole to plywood sides
(8) (2 screws each) to attach 2 x 4 bottom supports
(4) to attach 1 x 2's to bottom supports
Suggest (8) to attach Floor to sides

I have mine in the garage and in a baby pool. I made like a tent over them with old sheets so they don't hop out. Hopefully they'll have their hen house built this weekend!
