I have been trying to get one started in Dandridge for 2 months now.Our first one had 8 locals show up.Our second one had 2 we are going to have another on Sat October the 24th at Double R Farms Feed Store on Hwy 25-70 between I-40 exits 412 & 415 .Starts at daylight and will stay till everyone leaves. For info call (865) 397-8625 after 5:00 pm.If we start getting a good turnout this can become a regular thing Louis

Unfortunately, we have company in town that weekend, plus my daughter has a soccer game. Do you think you'll do these all winter, or suspend them until spring?

I have been to the First Monday sale in Morristown on several occasions. Its a sort of hit or miss affair in my opinion. There are almost always a lot of birds there, but there are not always a lot of "good" birds there. By "good", I mean healthy looking, well cared for birds. That being said, I have bought a few chickens there and have been very happy with them. As with any sale, its a matter of carefully looking over the birds, not making any rash decisions and making informed choices.

i LOVE the idea of these sales, but in practice i'll be hard pressed to find birds to buy. we're organic, so it's almost impossible to find anything other than day olds that will work. i would take a really nice bird that hadn't been raised organic, but only if it was really wonderful.

We would like to continue having monthly sales and possible bi-monthly if we start to get some good turnouts.I am going to schedule them for the second saturday of the month so it want compete with first monday in Morristown or the sale in sweetwater Lou

There is the annual fall Amish/Menonite sale in Fairview Ky. on the 24th. Its and all day sale, well they start selling birds at 9 and it ususally goes till six or later! Prices tend to be a little high but sometimes you can get some good deals. Usually a very good variety of chickens, bantams, ducks, geese, peafowl, pheasants,a few pigeons, lots of rabbits, guinea pigs. They also have auctions going on on for other things at the same time. I think there are three or four different auctions going at once. And lots of people!

I have several birds I need to sell or trade off.

2 white splash Modern Game bantam roos
6 parlor roller pigeons,male
1 hen and 4/5 young golden laced cochin bantams. One quad Quail belgian D'Anvers bantams
hen and young roo lemon blue Oe

Hey how are those little Exechequer's doing? We also have a lot of chickens for sale right now...selling off a few breeds totally...and lots of chicks and tweens.
Those sales scare me..never know what may be brought into them and then if you don't sell you could take home who knows what.

They are doing good. I lost one. I think I have two pullets and two roos. I went to get some hens advertized on CL yesterday in Greenbrier, they were supposed to be Ex's. One was a brown leghorn, two were black with pea combs, and one was a game cross! the guy said "well they don't always come out marked right but will get more white on them as they gety older"! Geez I wasn't born yesterday!LOL
I always go to sales early and check out whats for sale. Ig they look questionable I don't bother. I quaratine when I bring them home and have never had any problems. You are as likely to get bugs fromw wild birds as much as outside stock. Its more a matter of good husbandry and paying attention to your flock and jumping on problems as soon as they show and/or doing prevevtive medications and dustings to start with. The auctions allow you you to see what you are getting, and that sometimes is better than the not knowing for sure when you order.
What all are you getting rid of.
