out here in the foothills (i'm directly below Chilhowee Mtn) it's hardly getting out of the teens during the day. it's been single digits EVERY night. it spit the tiniest hailstones all day and now we've got actual snow. it only started a little bit ago, so no real accumulation yet, but it's steady. we're supposed to get snow through Monday. salt trucks just headed up towards Top of the World and the Parkway. that is a BAD sign. they almost never bother to salt the roads out here. our farm is the first thing you hit when you come off the mountain, so when the weather gets bad like this, we end up with all those people, who hike out or get their cars stuck, at our house. if it's 14 F here right now, i would guess it's about 9 F up there. and snowing. not looking forward to any of this.
my chickies don't have heat, but they've been soldiering through nicely. lots of hay they can bed in if they want and insulated blankets over the windows. i'm going to put them to bed now before the snow gets worse and i can't get the truck into the field (again).
