I'm so glad they found a new home. Yesterday when they spruced themselves up and laid back in the corner, they looked like they were waiting for the trip. All they needed was a suitcase.

Happy Goosy Loosy day.

i'm a chicken mother for the first time!!! Gretel's eggs started hatching today, right on time. so far the green egg has hatched (looks like it might be Gulliver the Orps baby) and one of the Silkie eggs (that had been refrigerated for 2 days before being sat on). 5 more to go! i'm so proud of Gretel- she's still down there sitting on those eggs like her life depends on it. she even assisted the little Silkie chick getting out of the last bit of egg!

so... i'm up to 6 new birds this weekend: the 2 geese, the 2 blue (self-blue i think) Wyandottes, and now two chicks!

i might need someone to come stop me. 2 more hens are sitting on nests......

final count, 6 out of 7 eggs hatched. i don't think the last one is going to since it hasn't even pipped, but i'm giving it some time. they are lovely!

looking at dates for our picnic. here's the ones i have in mind so far, so just let me know if anyone has a preference. i'm thinking afternoon, maybe starting sometime around 4-6.

Saturday June 5
Sunday June 6

ps: everyone is welcome to come out to the picnic. it's a very informal thing, but several of us Maryville folks got together a while back and decided we liked hanging out. it will be a potluck, light late lunch/early dinner type thing. the lake should be perfect by then, so swimming will be an option, as well as kayaking/canoeing and fishing. we've also got a sand volleyball court (which seems to have more weeds than sand). depending on how late people want to stay, we could always build a big bonfire and roast marshmallows, too! that is, of course, if everyone doesn't have to rush off home to close up the chickens!

Let me check my social calendar - NOT!

Any day is fine with me. Chickens say they'll let me give up some play time to go play with humans.

I teach discipleship training @ 1700 on Sundays and we've got Little League at 1900 on both Saturdays. The twelfth would be best, we'll just leave around 1800.
Thanks for putting it together,

Have a wedding to go to 6/12 at 1400. Not sure what time it and the reception will be over. May have to come a tad overdressed and maybe a bit late if the picnic is that day...

DD is on a school trip the w/e of the 6/5-6. She'll understand if it needs to be that w/e though.
