Terramycin

Terramycin is a joke! IF you did need an antibiotic which I doubt, Terramycin wouldn't work anyway. It is the worst antibiotic on the market........ good for nothing.

The problem is that we all give, take or want somethings we don't need. Antibiotics.

We have through the years been given way to much antibiotics for various reasons and now the drugs aren't working anymore. We have become immune to them. The same thing is happening with the poultry population. If they are truly sick, yes then they might need it -read MIGHT-, but if they are not why give it to them?
I know that TSC are telling everybody to give their chicks meds, a lot of that stems from them not offering medicated feed, but that is not the same thing. You can not give them antibiotic as a preventative measure, you will simply make the antibiotic not work when it is truly needed.
I even heard from vet that they are discontinuing Terramycin soon, I don't know how soon, because it is useless, the bacterias have built an immunity to it, and that is scary. All this means that we are having to give our chickens stronger stuff to kill off even the weakest bacteria.
Don't give them anything unless they need it.
What you can do is giving your chicks Apple Cider Vinegar, ACV in their water, it is good for them and it is not a medication, or you can give them plain yoghurt.
Search under ACV or yoghurt and you will find tons of posts on these subjects.
Sorry about the rant, I am from sweden and I am shocked of how easy it is to medicate yourself or your critters here in the states. It doesn't make for a healthier population, it makes us weaker.
Good Luck,

Well, it will work, but you have to use a different dose than what is on the package. Chickens, even chicks, need a lot stronger dose than the directions say to give. That is, if they are sick. And of course what they are sick with dictates what type of antibiotic to give. I agree with everyone else; never give antibiotics if they are not sick.

I never give antibiotics for anything except an injury. No need, and all you're doing giving it to healthy birds is making them resistant to them so they will not work when you really need them. Tractor Supply needs to get a grip. They are making extra sales for themselves is all.

Yes, my TSC tried to sell my mother Terramycin when we had our two chicks and were picking up a smaller bag of feed. They threw it in and said, "Here, you have new chicks? You should use this." When my mother came home and told me, I carefully read the directions, as I was still new to this, and concluded that it wasn't necessary and said on the label to pour a correct measurement into the water or chicks who were suffering from a Respiratory Infection. Didn't give it to the chicks and they proved to live a happy healthy chickhood and adulthood. I know better than to really trust them now.

I hate when we are misled. One of these days I'm going to ask for a medication that one of my sick birds seriously needs and they'll hand over something that was 'similar' to what I asked for that will only kill or not help them.

I once went into a TSC to look for Corid for cocci. The guy says, "No, we dont carry that. We have Terramycin." I informed him that Terramycin will do nothing for cocci. They just don't know any better or they are making extra $$$ whenever they can. I really do not like TSC for chicken needs.

I went into TSC for pine shavings, and another chick feeder. They saw me with the chick feeder and said oh, getting chicks? I said yep, I have some already, and another batch I'm picking up today.
So, the fellow suggested their feed, which I saw was not medicated. ( I wanted medicated ) Then he showed me the terramycin, and said put it in their water. I looked at the bag, and realized it was the antibiotics I was allergic too. I said no thanks, I'm allergic to that stuff, and dont want to risk handling it. Plus, my chicks aren't sick, they don't need that.
The impression I got from them at TSC is this.... When someone wants medicated feed, they don't carry it. Which is fine, some folks don't want it. However, they are under the impression the medicated part of the feed is antibiotics. It's not technically an antibiotic. I didn't try to explain it to him. I just think they are somehow misinformed.

I wouldn't give them anything but plain water. I do use a little good ACV in my water when they get a little bigger. All my birds have been given ACV and they are all healthy.
