Terrible rat problem

My barn cats have never done mature rats; they are my problem! Only poison works, IMO. And you need to change it out after a couple of weeks, to get survivors. BE VERY CAREFUL with the types and positioning of bait, so only the targeted rats and mice are killed.
There's always the 'rat terrier' approach, if you really want one, and can then keep your chickens safe from the dog.

Well there is a large amount of fun ways to deal with rats. I recommend visiting Shawn Woods on YouTube, he uploads all sorts of unique rat and mouse trap videos weekly. I Think the most effective rat traps he has shown are the Dunk rat Trap and the CO2 powered A24 trap. Both of these traps were shown in his videos and both can kill multiple rats per night with no need for a reset. Swedish rats tend to be more sneaky and smart, they are soooooo hard to trap or poison.



(This is mainly just a joke but who knows, maybe you could do this if you wanted to...) Ok so if the traps, poison, cats, and dogs do not work and you feel like you have been beaten by the rats there is still one last sure fire way to kill them... Check out this other channel on YouTube called Joseph Carter the Mink Man... Him and his dog and his mink can kill 30 rats within an hour.

That's why ferrets were domesticated in Europe; to use around buildings on rats. Very effective, too, as long as you can catch the ferret again.

That makes me remember, I used to hunt rats and mice at night with my pellet gun around the coop. I would put a big red light on in the run and throw some scratch out. I would to this for two or three nights in a row and then once I have all the pests trusting the area for food I would go and sit out there with my pellet gun and take them out.

I freaking hate rats. SO MUCH. Had a terrible rat problem by/under the coop. They were destroying the integrity of the ground itself beneath the coop with their tunneling. I could literally see them climbing all over the coop at night. Disgusting. After setting traps on every available surface around the coop and taking out several in such a fashion, we went to the big guns - the hose. Jammed the hose in the main rat hole and set dogs, myself and the man around and waited. It was an insanely satisfying slaughter. Did the trick and nothing like that initial infestation ever again.

great success controlling mice/rats

Controlling is the key word. Thank you for using that terminology. Erasing them of the map is not going to happen. It's kind of like a "Fire Ant Mound". You can put AMDRO on the mound and the ants go bye bye.


A month later, there are 3 mounds 2 hundred feet away from the last one.



So CONTROLLING is the perfect description for this topic.

I've only had rat infestations twice. First time I didn't want to use poison but they got smart to the traps.
Best luck I've had getting rid of them is by using those chunk baits, the ones with the holes down through them and sheetrock screw them down to a board. That way they have to chew them up to remove them and ingest some. Otherwise they just keep stealing them and stashing them somewhere and keep coming back for more. After I got rid of them that first time it was yrs before I had to deal with them again.

I really don't like cross linking my personal posts but this is a solution we came up with as far as a delivery system for the said CHUNK BAITS.

We reset these stations every 3 days. We now have about 10 of them. Since we are pig farmers, we have a higher than average volume of rodent population.
Keeping them out of our barn (safe harbor) has been a chore.
