I have a terrible story about my Daisy Duck... I will never go to Garrison Animal hospital again.. so a couple weeks ago she broke her leg. I got her X-Rayed and asked if there were any breaks. There wasn’t so I was told. Three days ago I let her out of her cage (she’s been separated for awhile now from my other ducks so she could heal) I walked away from her for 10 minutes not even. My boyfriend was outside with them still doing his own thing. Well I came back and she had blood pouring out of her mouth and nose she was choking on it... I rushed her to the closest vet in Garrison. They made me sit in that waiting room for 35 minutes with her bleeding all over me choking and spitting her own blood out. When finally I got the vets attention because no one had even told her I was there. The people in the waiting room with their pets were more concerned then the workers. The receptionist even told me “she’s fine it’s just alittle blood” my arm was red dripping with blood and she was running out of time. When we finally got in there they X-Rayed her and found her collar bone was broken and it had punctured her arteries. They told me it could of been an old injury or a new one they weren’t sure. Then they told me she would be fine. She shoved medication down her throat making the bleeding so much worse and I’m thinking also punctured one of her lungs. 30 minutes later Daisy Ducks lungs filled with blood and she soffocated to death in my arms as I held her and told her she would be okay now. So after this long sad story which left me broken hearted my question is. Do you think she had a bone disorder or was missing a vitamin in her body? Should I be worried for my other 3 ducks. She was a Pekin and I have a Cayuga, Mallard, and jumbo Pekin.

Sorry for your loss! :hugs
Sometimes God has his reasons for taking the young. Your precious darling isn't ever gonna have to suffer again, Daisy is in a better place, with the best of care now!
Praying for you. :fl

Welcome to the BYC forums.:welcome

Sorry for your loss. I am lucky in that we don't have any vets locally that treat chickens or ducks. We are pretty much on our own. Which makes things easier for me in that if I cannot treat my bird, I'll have to cull it myself. My backyard flock is not exactly livestock, but they are not pets either. Every loss is felt, even when planned for and expected in the overall management of the flock.

Sorry you lost her in such a traumatic fashion; she’s beautiful in that picture.
Getting to your question, I just feed my adult ducks all flock, and they all seem fine. I’m sure someone can recommend a supplement if you’re concerned about your others. Jumbo pekins are prone to leg problems, so he/she might benefit from a supplement. Again, Sorry you had such a bad experience. :hugs
