Hello,
The worst thing that has ever happened to a new born was hurtful!
A chick hatched and all the chickens were pecking and running after it, picking it up by the neck and stuff!
This is the first year of my hens breeding!

I am terrified of holding new born chicks and I was frightened if I hurt it.
The chick was found lying down alive... I took all the hens out but 1. My bantam Lucy....
Lucy was the only one leaving the chick alone, I tried to pick it up so many times but I kept crying and panic and yelled at the older ones to shut up!

I have been in so much stress and I don't think I can handle breeding please can someone give me advice!

Just pick it up gently. It's no big deal.(the picking up part)
Then I'd check for wounds, take a pic of it and post it here so people can give you advice how to help it.

Aw, poor chick. :( I don't know why the other chickens would be doing that, but I do think chicks are tougher than we give them credit for. I would take a few minutes to settle down, then get the chick and examine it for injuries. I hope it's okay!

Melissa: The Chick has died, I thought I would have another go, but before I picked it up, I made sure if it was alive, by stroking its skin gently, usually chicks make a little chirp, but this time it didn't, I started crying so much.

Here is the images

But have you noticed the little cut? Here is the zoom in

I honesty had no idea what to do, I did notice the cut that the older ones did, I didn't want to give it any more pain as it was just a new born

Very sorry this must be distressing but you have coped very well
I'm like you scared of anything like this
I couldn't pick up a dying chick
If it died on me I'd be distraught
But I think I will get better and having to deal with awful things like this
Is what will make you good at breeding
Don't let this awful experience ruin things

All I can think is the poor chick that died was the runt of the litter
And the others could sense it was weak

Hello Pinkaboo,
I am glad I am not the only one...
The thing is that this is the only chick in the litter that was hatched today, no other eggs were hatching just this one... Which really upset me because it was just after the new litter of kittens were born.
