its 100 and its sleeping in the light....it could go into darker part of the box but it doesnt....i put paper towels in and no walking because it is still ssleeping....weel see by tommorow hopefully!
As an added tip, I steal one of DH's white socks, curl it into a donut shape and the little ones found this perfect for sleeping in. The sock is a gonner though.
When you get a quart chick waterer filled and put marbles or pebbles in there to keep it from falling asleep in the water and drowning, you just dip its little beak in the water. It will catch on.
And, justino, when several experienced people tell you the answer to your question, LISTEN to them and stop challenging everything they tell you. 95 degrees right under the light the first week is what you want, not 100, plus enough room for it to wander around out from under the light if it gets too hot. That's the last word on it. Not 100, not 101, not 98.5. You can bank on it when Tuff or Katy or someone who has been raising chicks for years and years tells you that, I promise.
k he also has a splayed leg but i put shavings in there and he seems to be doing better....his leg is no longer out and is under him now. hopefully it will stay that way
Did I miss someone telling you to put shavings in there now?? Sorry, hon, but you don't want shavings in there just yet...it may eat the shavings. Please, if someone already told you to do it than ignore me.
Keep the paper towels/ cloth towels/ or shelf liner in there for awhile. Use your fingernail to tap in the water. That is how it learns from it's momma...she pecks at food/water to teach them. Next time, I would leave it in the bator until it is completely dry and fluffy. But you know when all is said and done ...you did a very good job.
