Greetings folks. This is my first post. Been reading, but can't find this info. I have 6 Tetra Tint chickens that I purchased from TSC 7 weeks ago. They all look similar, solid white in color and similar in size. Except for one. This one is considerably smaller than the others. It is the only one whose comb is becoming red. The other 5 are always together, but this one seems to do his/her own thing. I'm inclined to think this is a rooster, but they were supposed to be all hens. Does this sound like a rooster?

I'd be inclined to guess it is a rooster, though I'd be concerned that it is smaller than the other birds...

Where is your photo?

The TSC here sometimes has bantams -- much smaller than standards. Might have gotten one by mistake. But without pictures, it's all guesswork and speculation.

I will try to post pics tomorrow. I'm hoping the small one isn't the only hen.

I see TT pullets. Remember, these are likely 50% Leghorn so a fairly large comb is par for the course. The slightly darker hue is the only difference, really, and in the absence of super speed comb development, it isn't a strong sign. If you've seen pics of Leghorn cockerels at this age, they look much, much more developed than that. And, if you look at the whole chick, there are no cockerel traits at all (stouter legs, upright stance, etc.). As for the size variety, that's also not surprising with hybrids and it is is certainly not a big enough difference to be a different breed or a bantam.

If the comb suddenly grows by the day, then you worry. Otherwise, you just have one bearing a stronger resemblance to the Leghorn side of the family.
