(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am a total newbie! I don't think I've even actually touched a chicken before. But I am definitely excited about changing that.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, at the moment! I'm hoping to change that soon. Looking for breeders within a couple of hours of Northwest Indiana.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Not applicable! But I am interested in breeds like Orpington, Easter Eggers, Delawares, Leghorns, Wyandottes, and Dominiques.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
It was the first relevant link on Google when I began my research!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love cooking and experimenting with food. I am hardcore about buying local and supporting my community and small businesses. I am also an artist and a writer in my spare time, and work with markers, pencils, watercolor, and just recently began dabbling with acrylic.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a Texan city girl who only just recently moved up to Indiana to get a new start on life. I currently live in the Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana area, and I love it here! It was interesting surviving my first real winter. I just scored a job with the local animal shelter, and I hope to return to college soon, where I intend to major in Psychology and minor in Zoology. I currently live with four cats, but I have raised and cared for a menagerie throughout my short lifetime. I am vegetarian but have no qualms about eating organic, free-range eggs, and freshly caught fish. I'm thinking about raising my own catfish next year.
I really hope to make friends and learn from everyone's experiences here! After lurking for a while, I am pretty excited about meeting you all.
