Yum! We did boiled eggs for a snack today. The kids love em. Kiera has fun picking out which color she wants..lol
I made butter tonight! There was a lot of cream on top of the milk we go so I figured we'd use it. I shook the jar for 36 minutes before I thought to just put it in the blender... I think next time ill try and make coffee creamer lol

Did the roofers show up? Hope they got a lot done. :)

We ended up not fixing breakfast this weekend, but I just had breakfast for supper. Look what I got out of 2 of Arnet's eggs:

They sure were good!! I've got about 7 more of those in the fridge. :)
Good Morning!

Eggs look good. Is Arnet an Ameracauna?

Roofers came yesterday. I felt for them. We were reading 104 yesterday. They got 2 sides of the house shingles pulled off and the radiant barrier put on. I think they will get the house done today and start on the garage tomorrow. I will be so glad when they move to the garage. All the pounding gave me a really bad headache. My husband took me out to eat last night. :)

I hope everyone is feeling better today!

Lisa :)

Wow...I'm surprised that rambling post even made sense! Lol

Thank you Lisa! I've got the kiddos napping so I am soaking it up! ;)

Does anyone on here process themselves? I know there's a thread, but I was just curious. Im really thinking about getting a broiler or two, just to see if I could. I'm afraid I'd chicken out though (sorry..bad pun not intended). Worse case scenario I found a place that now processes for the public, but they're about a 45 min drive at least.

I processed my 2 turkeys a few weeks ago. I have done chickens , pigs, cows, rabbits and other animals a lot of years ago when I was a lot younger. What would you like to know? I am far form an expert but hope I can help with your questions.

When I went out to my big coop yesterday I found a hope in the back wall and 1 of 46 of the chickens outside. It looks like she jump the 6 foot dividing wall inside the coop and some how pushed through the outside wall where the board was rotten. I guess the older bird chased her and crowded her in the corners here it was rotten. Sure glad that coon did not get her. I have been baiting my tray now for weeks to get that coon but the trap is more like a feeder. He takes the bait but the trap never trips. I guess I am going to have to sit up and try to shoot him. I had put catches on the small coop so he could not get in so I put my silkies in there a few nights ago. I be he found away to reach in from the side where there was 1 1/2 inch gaping the top and push the tin top up just enough to get one of the hens. So that makes 6 bird he has gotten. Well hope everyone is doing good I have been down with my back now for almost a week. It comes and going but I guess that's life. I broke 2 vertebra in my back 11 years ago in a car wreck so I guess it has caught up with me.

Harley, I am sorry to hear about your back. Rest and don't overdo it. I guess you won't be buying any chicks for a while.

You should have Hung come and help you with the coon. I send all of my coons to Hung. Keeps him out of trouble. :)

Try smearing peanut butter on the trip thing and adding some cat food or corn to it. He will have no choice but to come in to eat. He should trip it while eating then.

Must have been still suffering the side effects from being sick over the weekend. :) That's how my kids made butter in school. I think the teacher had them do that to make them all tired. ;) You can make butter in the mixer too. May work better that way. My friend did that by accident once when we were 18.

My sinus headache from Saturday is finally gone today. Woke up with it though. Went out for a ride in the 90% humidity (yuck!) and it is now gone. It was so good to be out riding again. I only go out once last week... I hope I can get out a few more times this week.

I have a question.... How often do you give your birds treats?

I guess what method you use?
I really want to use the cone/ bleed out method, but i'm worried I'll miss the artery and cause a little too much misery.
There's a guy I found to do them closer but he has a 25 bird minimum and that's not happening yet! lol
So I'll probably end up doing them myself. Hubbs said he won't do it lol

Take care of that back!

My flock expects treats every time I step out that door! I give them the leftover scraps from dinner, an apple core, meal worms, etc. It really is up to you as to how often you give them treats. It is definitely a good way to get them to come to you.

Even when I come back from the mailbox, they think I have treats! Yes, they inspect my mail.

I missed this, sorry!

Glad you're feeling better.

My girls usually get one thing a day, in the evening, after breakfast and dinner. Yesterday it was okra tops and yolk crumbs leftover from hardboiled eggs.
Today they got a "popsicle" I made with water, apple sauce, peaches, and melon. Because it's HOT out

It is Africa hot out! It used to be a lot drier here. Not it is like Florida or Louisiana humid here.

Trevor is coming by tonight and he wants me to make my tomato galette for supper. I have the tomatoes and basil sitting together right now so the flavors can blend.
I love all the different color stuff I grow. Purple basil and yellow tomatoes sure do make this look pretty.
