Did anyone else get up nice and early to see the eclipse? I got some good shots until the clouds rolled in. It was fully eclipsed when it got covered up. I was hoping to get shots of the shadow moving off, but I got to go back to bed instead.

What time was it?
I was outside from like 8-9:15, then 11:45-almost 1am!

So..I was NOT up nice and early...lol

And I didn't see anything different. I guess it was too early.

On a side note: My request to join the Russian Orloff Society of the USA and Canada on Facebook was approved yesterday!

There are SOO few breeders..I would like to help (in the...not so distant future) get them back in the APA. They're such neat birds and I love my 2 little girlies already

My Australorp that I was positive was a girl, is starting to get her waddles in..
Hoping she's just an early developer, since her comb is still tiny and pale

The eclipse started at 4:15 and I was out from then until it got cloudy at 6:25. I guess you missed my FB post with the viewing guide.

Yeah for you! How are you going to help them? Will you try your hand at breeding? I say go for it. There are so many rogue roos around here it isn't funny!

Lets keep our fingers crossed for early development.

I need to get going on my coop soon (as in after Christmas). I don't think my neighbor wants to help me anymore. :/ I need to find people to help me.

Yep! But it won't be in this home. Not enough room, and the limit I think is too low.

I know I hear the same roo at home that I do downtown. Lol.
I saw an escaped Leghorn roo on Llamar awhile back. There's a blue house down there with quite a few.

If you can't end up building, there's a facebook page..DFW Chickens or something.
"Kurt" maybe...anyway he's the guy that does the Urbancoops on Craigslist too, but he's much more reachable on Facebok. I think he's really reasonable priced..$350 for a coop and small run. Coop holds about 8. He built a lovely little "church" coop! I'm going to get one in the early spring.
I know i's generally cheaper to build..but once I bought meterials, paint, and tools (we don't have any) and then factor in the limited time we have..it just makes more sense for us personally to buy. Then it's done!
I'll see if I can find a picture

Oh and look at this one. I KNOW these are expensive

Lost my best girl today
hit.gif
she was like a dog, followed me around, clucked with delight when I came out to the coop, and if I sat down would run and jump into my lap to be held. She was a blue silkie hen a little over 1 year old named Scarlett, my best chicken in over 8 years of raising chickens, I balled and am balling my eyes out just thinking of her. I found her under the coop(the coop is on little legs) all sprawled out with no obvious signs like blood, feather loss, foam at the mouth, or any sign of injury; which makes this harder not knowing what happened to her, if she was in pain, or if I was at fault

. any ideas of what happened to my baby girl?

I was up. I got a few on my iphone, but only the beginning of the eclipse. The clouds had totally covered it up by the time the shadow was only a quarter covering the moon. :(

My Aussies developed their waddles/combs early. And they were really big too. I thought one of mine was a roo since the comb/waddles had gotten so big.

She was gorgeous.....I'm so sorry you lost her...
I wish I could help with the mystery but all of my losses have been from one of our dogs...

Oh thanks! Give's me some hope lol

I've seen the Hobbit House coops. Very cute. Very expensive. And so very wrong for chickens - no ventilation.
I will have to look into the FB page. I have some wood, and I have wire so it really makes sense for me to build it. Oh, I have paint too and windows. I don't have help or tools. Major lacking points there. lol!

Sorry you lost her. :( I'd get a necropsy done since it is such a mystery.

I found a coop on here that gave me some new ideas for my coop. I need to find someone to help me build it. I'm going to start in January. :)
I like that coop. Looks to have some good ventilation.

One suggestion, if you can afford it, I would extend the front part of the run a little farther out. Give them a little more room in the run when you can't let them out to free range.
