Looking at some new arrivals in April.

Cant wait, but I will.

Just dropping by to see how everyone is doing.

How much longer before you get your babies Ms JB? I plan on getting a few chicks this year. I hope to get some heritage ones if I can find someone around here that has any. I'm leaning toward Orps. I really like my Buffs. They are so pretty and quite. Very unlike my SLW. Noisy things they are!

tjo ~ What are you getting in?

I'm so tired of this weather here. We got more snow/sleet today. In fact, we still had snow on our house from last weeks winter event! My chickens do not like the snow. They will go out in the run and just stay on the parts that have no snow, lol. Silly things! I have some pics, but haven't uploaded them yet. I'll try to do it over the weekend.

The bantam chicks are due to arrive this Friday!!!!!!!! The LF chicks will be coming sometime in April/May. I am on a wait list for some Altsteirer eggs and I am not sure when they will come. I'm ordering SFH eggs with them too. I'm going to time the rest of the chicks I want with their hatching - CLB, BCM, and OE. I need to start on my coop!

We got 4 inches of snow at my house. That was on top of the 1 inch of rain and the 1/4 of sleet and freezing rain. Crazy! And today I mowed the lawn. Gotta love this time of year in Texas, lol!

I'm going to be picking up medical type things to have on hand for the chicks. What are the best things to have at hand? Vet Rx was one thing I thought about getting. What else?

I'm so glad your finally getting some chicks! You'll have so much fun!! Have you decided on your coop? Post pics if you can. :)

The snow here was awful. It stayed around forever!! I still haven't uploaded the pics, but I will. lol

I didn't get that much for mine, but I got a few things in case I needed them. I did get and use Life Lytes. I got mine at Atwoods, I believe Tractor Supply has it also. I used it for about a week or two, just to make sure everyone was doing good. Easy to use, just fill the bottle up with water and add one tablet, shake it up to dissolve it and fill the waterer with it.

I also picked up some Corid. I chose not to feed medicated chick feed, so picked up the Corid to use if any of the chicks picked up coccidiosis. I got mine at Atwoods. It's in the cattle section, not the chicken section. I've never had to use it.

I also picked up some Blu Kote in case someone got hurt to help stop the chicks from pecking on the bloody spot. Never used it till they got bigger and my RIR pulled the tail feathers off of Arnet.

Don't get them the round jar feeders. Those things are a BIG waste of feed! It just pours out the bottom and gets all over the brooder. Use the long ones that have several holes. They do get on it and poop in it, but doesn't waste near as much feed.

What kind of warmer did you get? I would splurge for the Premier heat plate. I just LOVED mine! I plan on using it again this year when I get some more chicks.

So how many are you planning on getting? Sounds like you've got a nice selection going. I want some colored Orps. I would love some Blue/Black/Splash ones. I want to get some English ones if I can. I like how big they are. My 3 hatchery Buff Orps are 3 different sizes. One is huge, and the other two are a bit smaller.

My brooder. It's huge! It's 48"x30" and 32.5" high. It's Sasha's old kennel. I screened it in so the chicks can't escape. I have a heat plate (from Premier), water bottle (from Premier) and food dish (reamer). And some toys.

I'm doing FF. I got a really cute 1 gallon glass jar that looks like a barrel at Walmart to use for it.

I haven't started on the coop yet, but I am modifying the bluegrass coop slightly that I has posted before. I like and it will work well for my yard. I will add an additional run around it too.

I'm hoping to have 1 of each kind of chicken I listed, but we all know how chicken math works. I have 10 bantams coming! lol! I had to order minimums... Only planning on keeping 2-4. The city says I can have 12 chickens. I really want to only have at most 6. I guess that will go to 8 with the bantams. I figure 2 of them = 1 LF. ;)
