Texas BYC Cafe

Hi, I'm new to this site and new to having chickens again. I use to have them years ago. My name is Paulette and I live in Palacios. My husband and I have been married 43 years. We have two daughters. The oldest is married, teaches school and has four children. Our oldest granddaughter just graduated from college and our oldest grandson is a 2nd year West Point cadet. The youngest two boys are in the 5th and 9th grade. Our youngest daughter still lives with us. She has Down Syndrome.
We had lots of rain last night and my coop got wet inside. It's on a concrete slab but the rain got under the wood and the shaving got a wet. I replaced them with dry and am hoping it won't rain again tonight even though we need rain bad. I enjoyed reading all the posts from beginning to end. Not sure how this site works but will try to keep up and post often.

Welcome from Rosenberg! You sound like you have a great family. Give that West Point young man a BIG hug from me!

What kind of chickens do you have? (We love pictures)

Lisa :)

Thanks, I enjoyed reading all the posts.
I have 1 Toy Fox Terrier (Rena) and 21 hens (Golden Sex Link, Barred Rock, Ameraucana and Black Australorp) and 2 roosters (Golden Sex Link and Black Australorp). My flock is 10 weeks old. I'll take some pictures.

Question, what is jabber and how do I post something that stays on the bottom?

Good Morning!

How is everyone today? It cooled down last night. I am reading 60 degrees outside. Looks like we got some rain but will have to wait for the sun to come up to check the gauge.

pfields: You asked what is 'jabber'. 1) to talk in a fast, unclear way (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) 2) Instant Messaging. Hope that helps.

Ya'll have a GREAT day!

Lisa :)

Welcome from the Dallas area!
I've been to Palacios once! My dad wants to retire there, he LOVES fishing. Lol

Are you talking about a signature, you should be able to go to our profile and edit it :)
If you hover over your screen name in the top right corner, it should give you the option!

Yes, like yours says "overrun with chickens" and how to add to all my posts like yours at the bottom under the line.

We've had two blue heelers, awesome dogs. Lost the first to a SUV on our country road before we had the fence and had to put down our last one "Joy" due to cancer. We'll get another soon.

He should retire here. It's a quiet town with a great school system. I retired from the school in 09 and went to work at the nuclear power plant. Was doing that until Feb. of 2013 when I stepped out of the boat in the driveway in the dark and broke my right leg and crushed my lower knee. Had surgery and was in wheelchair for 4 months, then crutches and finally walking with no swelling after nine months. Was a trial but it's amazing what you can do even in a wheelchair. I cooked, did laundry and even went fishing again with my husband's help getting in and out of the boat. God is good!

Sorry about your pups! My dog is half queensland heeler, or red heeler. He's white with tan speckles :)
I'm sorry about your accident too, but how resilient you are!

Oh, yeah, it finally allowed me to make a change. Now I just have to think of what I want to put. Thanks!
You're welcome! And remember, you can always change it

Yeeouch! How are you doing now? Any pain? I am glad you are able to walk again.

What classes did you teach?

Lisa :)
