Ms. Jellybean, congratulations to your son!!

Lovingmyhens, I love that fence.

A1Mom, neat idea on the potatoes. We already have ours in the ground. Hope to remember that idea. I use to have a potato growing in a jar over the kitchen sink. They are a really pretty plant. Okay what is wrong with cow poo???? I am one of those weirdos who love the smell of cow manure. I have cows on two sides of our house. Love it!

Henless, The chicken pen is up and I am almost done with the fishing line. I had to take a break today. I had asked my husband to put tall poles on the corner posts so when I run the fishing line, he can walk in the pen without cutting his head off. He is 6'3" and I am 5"1. I think the poles he put up are 10 feet tall.

I am standing on the top step of the ladder to tie up the fishing line. MEN!!!

Look what I got today!!! My mom gave me these. They were a very close family friend's mothers (she thinks). They are all antique pieces. Not sure when they are from. I think the necklace is Art Nouveau. I love it! The one ring is purple and the other is light blue. Not sure why it looks purple in the photo. The beret and necklace are sterling.

What a lovely day it was here. Wish every day could be like today!

JB ~ Hope you had a great ride today. It won't be long and those long hot days of summer will be here. Enjoy these days while you can.

Loving ~ What a great deal! Free chickens and a coop to boot! I look at the add Harley posted about the BCM. They are pretty birds!

Lisa ~ Your chicks will have plenty of room for flying around with the line up that high!!

Be sure and post pics! I also like the smell of cow poop. Of course, horse apples smell loads better!

I'm doing DL too! If I had known about the DL method, I would have gotten chickens long ago. Chicken poo just stinks, and I didn't want to have to deal with cleaning out a nasty, slimy chicken coop. :sick Strawberries were my first thought to put in the holes. :D I plan on checking this weekend to see if I can still scrounge some up to plant. May have to wait on them till next year. As far as grass, just try a good mix of different varieties. Give them some variety. @Lisa ~ Hope your coop building is coming along! Don't forget, we need pics! @Loving ~ Did you ever find you any chicks? You were looking for Marrans I believe. Harley posted about some new chicks in Mineola. Pretty colors. Lunch is over and it is rest time. Be heading back outside once my granddaughter gets up from nap.
Walmart had some this morning. Strawberries that is and Walmart in Mineola. So you might check with your local mart and see if they have any.
Me riding with a gas mask, too funny! I want to try winter gardening this winter. I think strawberries would be great for the holes. I've never had much luck with them, but I bet raised in improved soil they would do great. Birds and snails would get mine or they just wouldn't grow. I'll have to try a raised bed of them. You could tuck herbs into the holes too. I have an idea for my run for greens that I got from Fresh Eggs Daily. Make a couple raised beds and cover them with chicken wire. Plant wheat grass and oat grass for them. You could do other grasses too. I'm thinking wheat and oat grass are better for the winter hear. Another way to get greens for them is to go to a health food place that sells smoothies. They usually have sprouted wheat grass that they trim for the smoothies and once it is all trimmed up the toss it out. You can let them know you want the matt. Let it grow out a few days a you have some nice greens for them. I got a nice bike ride in today. The winds are killing me. Riding the trainer has made me very soft. I need to get back up to what I was riding last Fall/early winter. It shouldn't take too long. I hope. Hills and headwinds today were killer! I really need to work on core strength.
Wheat and oat grass got it. My plan was to do something like that. Block off one part while the grass comes up and then do they other part after that. I was thinking about clover too but where do you get seeds?? I ordered wheat sprouts or seeds for sprouts. I have my first batch going right now. Will see how that works out.
Brookshire11 from the other thread found some sorta close to her. She offered to go get some for me and foster them until they are old enough to be tossed out into my backyard! She picked them up last Sat, they were a week old, and they are doing fine! She lost 2-a GCM and a legbar. I think I have 2 GCMs and a cream legbar. I also have a friend who's fiance has had chickens for a couple of years. She told me the novelty has worn off and he wants to get rid of them...he has 3 production reds. 2 are 2 yrs old and one is 7 months. He is bringing them over, with the coop!!!, this weekend. So, I will have a total of 9 when I meet Brookshire11 in the Woodlands in June.
Ok well I'm about 10 minutes from Mineola if you or anyone need someone to get them for you! ;)

LMBO!! Men indeed! No I don't mind the smell of cow poo by it's self but mixed with the onions. Yuck!! My hubby loves the cow poo smell. It reminds me of my dad and his milking years!!

Those are so pretty!! I love stuff like that!!

I got my nesting box put into its new home today. All white washed and ready to go.... just need the hay when it gets closer to time for them to start laying. Its nice having boys to be able to more things when I can't! lol

Good Morning!!!

Laurie, I loved the jewelry. You will now have to buy some outfits to go with the new pieces!

Today I am making Strawberry Jam. I am waiting for Ken to move an extra tall ladder out to the pen, so I can finish running the line diagonally.

A1Mom, love the nest box. Are you getting excited?

Ya'll have a great day!

Yes, I can't wait to gather my first eggs later this summer. My Granddaughter is coming over this weekend and he will be 9 months old. I am hoping to get some good pictures in her little overalls with the chickens and her egg basket.
I love strawberry Jam. I make peach jelly when I buy peaches to put up in the freezer, boil the skins and seeds for the juice. Ill have to try strawberry jam some time when I can get cheap berries!
Well, I am not going to whine or grip today. LOL

Your nest box is nice!! If I can make a suggestion, or two actually. I would cover the nest box so the birds can't sleep in it. Open it up once they get to laying age. Also with the tin on top I would cut an old section of garden hose length wise to slide over the sharp edge so your birds don't accidentally fly up and cut themselves. David

I have some foam tubing that will work great for that, thanks. As for sleeping it them, so far they check it out when I put it in there but left it alone after that. They LOVE their roost and at night they all have their spots on the roost and during the day they all either lay together in a group where the sun come into the coop down in their dirt hole or some of them get on the roost. But if I notice them trying to sleep in it I will for sure cover them up.

Thank you. I do need to get some new outfits. Everything I have is too big.
My sister makes Jam and jelly. It is so good. My kids devour it when we get it.

It is super windy here today . Looks like rain but I don't think we will get any.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! I can't believe it is almost lunch time. Running errands sure does eat up the morning.
