I saw that article but I haven't gotten to read it yet. But I'm going to start slowly getting different breeds, good strong males and females and then start slowly. It may take me a while as I am only getting a couple at a time to get a male and a couple of females of each breed I want but this way I can always have chicks at different stages. Each stage has it's own fun!!
Then I would like to try some different breeding. Like a cream Legbar with a Black copper maran to see if I can get a dark olive Egger!

See if we all lived closer we can play chicken Frankenstein to gather. Lol
And I'd be ALL for it. Lol
I wouldn't mind trying to get the extra fluff of a faverolle with maybe a blue/green egg
Like an extra fluffy, feathered foot EE.

I caught Pearl in the nesting box on lunch today!
I closed off the old flip top feed been she's been laying in lol
Little weirdo
Hopefully I find an egg in there tonight!
Hubbs said he saw Freya, the Barred Rock, snooping around today too, where Pearl HAD been laying.
She's been squatting like crazy and she's at the top of the pecking order..so I'm hoping to find a brown egg soon!

I saw The Colonel doing the dirty with one if my BR this morning. I could tell who he had pinned but it was surprising and a bit on the rough side. Lol
So I know it just any week now!!

It would be great if we all lived closer together. We could help each other with our addictions. ;)

Oh yes we could!!! Lol

No I'm not dead, yes I am comfortable, no I'm not sexy, yes I am a cat

Don't ya just love it! My digs and cats are so funny, between then and the flock I'm always smiling about something. Lol

LOVE IT!!

Lisa :)

Baahahaha..... With hands ringing together back and forth! Lol

Tomorrow is delivery day of new chicks!!! The day before is way better than Chrustmas Eve! I just can't wait!!! Lol

That's great!!! How long have they been laying?? I use to love finding those when we were growing up!! Can't wait to find one with my girls!!!

By the way @henless I love your garden!!
Girls we are all so much alike! I wish we all lived closer!!

This one that lays the two yolkers was one I got from a friend. So I don't know how long she's been laying. I think she's nearly a year old-a production red.

Henless, your squatter looks like it has a pea comb. Check this picture out:

Re. Arnet, I am saying female for now. Look and see if she/he is getting any saddle feathers. That is a good clue for a rooster. How old?

I love your garden.

Lisa :)
Thanks! I'm guessing here, but since that chicken has 3 rows of peas, is it a roo?

This is my EE and she looks like she could be the twin of yours Henless!!

Got a double yolker!! The egg was ginormous!
They do look alike!!! Double yolkers are great for eating!

Id love to breed Orpingtons. But I'm also starting to look into Salmon Faverolles. Very hard to narrow down, but I can cross Silkies and Barred Rocks off. Lol.
I'm leaning toward the Orps myself. I do like my BRs, SLW and Aussies.

There's a lady on the Tyler Craigslist that is selling out her entire flock of Orps. Bantam Chocolates, and LF Blues/Blacks/Splash. I think she lives in Diana? I was thinking about getting some chicks from her next year, so looks like I will have to look elsewhere. :(

So cute!! Cats are the funnies creatures!

Well, no egg today. So I either sold my egg layer, or she's tired.

Whoever laid the pullet egg, it sure was yummy for supper! It was also pretty dark. A lot darker than the free range eggs I have been buying. I took a pic, but it hasn't showed up in yonder cloud yet.

I am assuming so.....the name is Louie. Here is what the thread said:

3. The Pea
Pea combs often have 3 rows of "peas" side by side, although sometimes there is only 1 row. The "peas" are little bumps, usually quite uniform in shape and size. As the bird matures the comb grows, sometimes losing its neat, ordered appearance and becoming a large blob on the head.

I would like an Aussie myself, they seem hard to find around here though.
I would love a chocolate Orp, but I'm not really looking for more bantams at the moment
