A lot has to happen to make an egg. I'm surprised more egg don't come out funny looking. I'm sure they will straighten out in a few days.Ok so for 2 days now I have been finding miss fires, as I call them. LOL One of which I think is a hen laying on the roost!!! It has been in the same place both mornings, soft shells and the one this morning had no yolk. Both have been broken open of course. The hen are not bothering it in the mornings, no eating going on.... if they were I would never see it. So I am not sure who or why but I figure it will all straighten out during the next couple of weeks.
I hope your neighbor is able to help you out. Such a shame you have to get rid of them, even temporarily.Well my ten days are nearly up that my hoa has given me to get rid of my chickens. I have put off going to talk to my neighbor about taking them for a couple of months because I keep thinking I'll wake up and the hoa will have disappeared or at least the issue. So tonight I'll go talk to him for sure. Ugh
On a brighter note, I'm getting a concrete slab poured tomorrow. So I will have a porch in my backyard. I'm Really excited!!
Those are so pretty!I have my tomato basil bread in the oven. Boy does it smell good! I'm going to put the pounds on if I keep making bread and don't ride my bike enough. I was going to go this morning but Trevor doesn't have a house key. I also needed to get to the grocery store. I was just about out of toothpaste. Need that! I had a limit of no more than $50 imposed on myself. I did good! $46 and some change and I even picked up two very pretty purple coneflower plants - on clearance now!

Looks like I missed something why do you have to give away your chickens? If it's the hoa then how will the neighbor be able to keep them ? I am gone for a few weeks and everything changes around here!! Wish there was something I could do to help you out with the hoa. Do I need to drive down there and poke someone in the nose ?
Ok if you look straight down the picture to the house on the other side of the fence, well it went up for sale on sat July 5th. On Sunday there was an open house for 4 hours and in Thursday I got a letter from the hoa saying i can't have chickens.
Everyone, all neighbors, suspect it was the realtor that either heard them or saw them from the upstairs window of the house that's for sale. And turned me in. I guess she thought she needed to sell this house and my chickens would prevent her from doing so.
Well 3doors down, are some new neighbors of about 3 months and they have 8 chickens. No one knows of course, and I went tonight to tell them about the letter and ask if they could keep them for a while until this dies down and the house sells. They were really angry that the hoa would get in our business but said they would absolutely keep them for as long as necessary! They want to make sure we both can keep our chooks!!!!!! So they go over on Sunday.

Long day today. I had to go to the dentist too, for a cleaning. Glad to be home.
Went and checked on the chicks today and this is what I found:
I got a new layer today, and I've got COLOR!!!!
I believe it's a pale green. When I hold it up to my blue shirt, looks green. I'll know for sure when I crack it and compare the inside to the outside. I'm pretty sure it came from Rosie, since she is the only EE that is squatting.
DH is working late, so I fixed my favorite supper. I used one of my first pullet eggs. It may be small, but it looks pretty good sitting in the pan. Tastes even better in my plate!! LOL
It's on the right. It's a lot smaller than the other egg, but looks just as good. I have 2 dozen left from my egg man, then I'll be eating my own eggs. They better start pushing!!

He's handsome! And I'm glad they can't mess with you. People get too concerned over stuff that's not their business. I even catch myself once in awhile.Well that's what sucks about subdivisions is HOA Have you thought about getting a partition to change the by laws of the HOA about chickens. I would get together with the neighbors and Talk about what I wanted as rules like say 10 chickens without any roosters. They have to be kept in the backyard and fenced in where they can not get out. Then I would take it door to door and get all the subdivision to sign it. You would have to make sure that the person signing is the owner who's name the place is in. I would approach it as the chickens are pets just like dogs and that you have the right to have them just like those who have dogs or cats. But don't be pushy about it. If you can get the majority of the home owners to sign then the HOA has no choice but to change the bylaws. I am so thankful I don't live in a subdivision. I been on this place from 1972 long before the subdivisions got out here. They are all around me but I can have all the chickens and anything I want to. Oh I have my problems with them cause they want to force their rules on me but can not lol. The sheriff has been out here a few times to look around and say that he was called for one thing or another. But he thinks it funny cause there is nothing they can do. He said that he will not be back out over any of this that he told the person calling that he could not do anything. He also told them that I was in my rights to have my chickens or any animal I wanted that I am not under any bylaws of any subdivision. I am siting here and can hear one of the Roos crowing now it's my bantam here is a pic of Blue![]()
I was going to offer if the neighbors said no...lol Great minds think alike! That is GREAT! I am so glad they will be safe. I was so close to offering to come get them and keep them for a while for you (I'm near SA, lol). Hope it all works out!
