I got my marans,4 of them, June 1st. They were 4 weeks at that time. I let them out in the backyard Tuesday. They have been fine. I've got 6 bigs and everything has been going really good.
I know the lady that I got them from so I'm not worried about them being sick. I'm not sure what to be looking for during these 30 days. I really was hoping not to have to wait a long time. What's the shortest time anyone has ever really waited.
Wish I could!! Yay!! I'm so glad things are going well!!' Here are my boxes! I just put them in the open for now so they can get used to them. Before After! Got some dummy eggs! Little Hawk and Freya, checking it out.
The boxes look great!! They look like they are going to enjoy them!!

I gave up and I am getting them their own coop. LOL This fall we are building a new barn/shop and going to build me a new big coop ;and run on the back half of our land so I can build it where I can have a bantam side and then a standard side. I just couldn't stand to see the little guys get beat up on by the bigger ones. It was killing me. LOL Just broke my heart so this was easier for us all. LOL

Tomorrow I get to go get my FREE black copper marans chicks. My friend hatch several and she wants to give me a couple of hens and a roo!! I am so excited. She said they were broiler size so I am guessing that's about 7 weeks old. I will have to make sure I share pics of my new babies and when they new coop gets in I will post that too. I just ordered one off line. it was 170 and I just need to do a little tweaking to it and it will be perfect for my 2 silkies. Once we get the new big coop built this fall I can use this little coop for a move up coop for little ones.

It has been crazy since we got back from vacation. My future daughter in laws mom decided she is done being a mom and told her 17 year old daughter she has to move out. So seeing how she just graduated and has no where to go, we have been trying to move her in here. Her dad died when she was much younger and her mom ...... well things just aren't right. She is such a good kid and it just brakes my heart. Soooo, like everyone else there is always something going on. LOL
How exciting! What will happen to the beautiful coop you just built? That's really sad her mom kicked her out. And only 17 too.

About to go scour the yard for more eggs! Pearl laid outside today and Eloise, one of my Buff Orps, looked very pink during vent checks!
(I checked them all out because their crops weren't full this evening

Did you find any? I bet the kids had fun 'helping' you, if you let them that is.

Here are my new babies!

How long do you have to keep new birds separated from the rest if the flock??
Oh my! They are gorgeous! I can't wait to get mine.

Hi!

It looks like I have 3 roosters.

Anyone interested in Ameracauna roosters??? They are 15 weeks old. I will get pictures of them if you are interested. I want to get rid of 2 of them.

Lisa :)
These are from the group that the said was all pullets, right? You should let him know. ;)

I'd still do a short quarantine. Two weeks or so. It's possible they're immunities can fight off something that your's can't. When I did seahorses the shortest QT I did was 2 weeks. And that was if I knew the person. If they came in from another source it was a full month.

I power washed the house and brick on Friday afternoon. I think it is looking better. I'm not sure I notice a difference in the brick over all like people said I would. I do notice how much nicer it looks without the mold and mildew on it though. I had spots of mold, especially the north side of the house, in a few places. I was able to get almost all of it off. There is one spot on the north side I just could remove. I really tried too. I'm hoping with the yard all cleaned up and better ventilation and light the stuff won't come back.

Yesterday I spent many hours scraping and repairing the house. My house is all brick so I got to be up on a ladder working on the eves. My neighbor helped me fix a bad spot. The wood should really be replaced but I can't afford to do that right now. Once the wood dries out really well l am going to put wood filler in it and caulk it up really well. Hopefully that will fix it for a bit. I was able to get one short side plus half the front done. I'm hoping to caulk the short side on Monday. We have a chance of rain in the forecast most of the week (yeah!) so I am not sure what I can get done this week. I also got my yard mowed, edged and trimmed and picked the garden. I have a ton of grape tomatoes! I also discovered a bunch of squash bugs. Most had hatched recently. :( I haven't been spraying so I had to do that too. I killed a bunch (squished them) and cut infested leaves and put them in the trash can. I'll have to be on top of things with my spraying for a bit.

I'll have to get a photo of how my zucchinio ramicante is looking now. It's getting huge!

I'm home from church this morning because Sasha has some intestinal issues. Poor thing. She got into the cat food.

Jellybean, what are you on and can I have some?? LOL I would give anything to have energy to get that much done. It's been so hot I can't hardly breath out side. LOL
I got to keep my granddaughter yesterday so when she is here all I get done is a LOT of play time. But that was well worth it.

As for my coop we just redone, I will be moving the pen out to the new site when the time comes. The Doors I will reuse also and any wood I can salvage when we do the teardown. So I will be moving everything I can out to the new site. But the old barn is on a hill and no level and it is a make do for now place. I am hoping we can build the shop/barn and the KFC Safe house coop in the same style. I don't like the multiple make shift cage look I am forced to have to have right now. LOL But when you can't say no to more chickens you do what you have too. LOL

I do know the new birds poo smells way different then my chickens so I am at least going to what until the poo changes smells. If that make since. Do different breeds poo smell different or is it just based on what they eat. As a nurse I know the smell of poo means something. LOL It is sad I know so many different smells for poo. I figure the 2 weeks time frame is about what I was thinking. I am going to worm them today and I am hoping I can work that smell out of them. It is BAD. Of course I do the DL method and I love the fact I hardly ever smell poo.

Well, I woke up with a migraine trying to come on so I took my meds, my daughter came and got my grandbaby and now I am waiting on the meds to kick in so I can get out and be productive like the 'bean here. She is my hero!! LOL

I think it is genetic. I've been like this my whole life. A friend says that I have a get it done determination. I think it is stubbornness. I'm Norwegian. :)

Hope you are feeling better.

I made scones today. I changed up the recipe just a tad. Almond instead of vanilla and added some currents.

Good luck on the egg hunting! Hopefully they will begin laying in the nests. What age are you chicks now?

Pretty! Pretty!

I'd wait at least 2 weeks. Give them time to get used to the germs in your yard.

JB, you make me tired! LOLOL

DH and I started on our outdoor run today. We got the posts up and cemented. I took pics and pics of my garden growing, but they haven't come in on my email yet. Is there an easier way to post? I usually send the pics to my email, save to my computer and then post on here. Sometimes they get to the email almost instantly, sometimes it takes a day or so.

We got a bit of rain today. Just enough to get the porch wet.
