Ok girl let's see if my guess is the same as what y'all think.

This is the one I think is a rooster. He is the more out there, protective and vocal one.
We call him Cluck Norris

This is Ms Puff

This I believe is my hen. She doesn't have the cone like the buff one does. She is more shy.

So what do you think?
Yep!!
I agree
Your are so much more poofy than mine were then..I had the same colors, male buff and female white!
Actually...your white is STILL more poofy than mine. Lol. But mine is a lil hatchery girl.
My daughter named her "Blue"

She's 19 weeks

Kimberly, your silkies are gorgeous! Maybe someday I will try some silkies. I'm sticking to full size for now though.

Robin - your chickens antics are so funny. Such drama! These little birds are packed with so much personality. :)

Nathan's car was totaled out by the insurance adjuster. He's keeping the car and fixing it though. We are still waiting to hear back from the people's insurance company as to whether or not they will cover his claim. I was told they probably will though since his car was parked. I hope so. He can get it fixed for quite a bit less than what the adjuster is saying so he could walk away with some extra cash. That is always a good thing. :)

Well I have looked back and can't find, or remember, what happened to Nathan's car! What's the deal???

I thought I posted about it here....

A week ago last Saturday he and his brother were out doing some off road (mostly dirt road) driving and came upon an open to the public mud event. This is apparently great fun to do (maybe it's a guy thing) so they went. It was on some guys land in Princeton. Anyway, while they were they a guy was teaching his wife to off road drive and she got stuck in the mud so Nathan went to help them get out. He parked his car and got out so he could hook up the tow strap. The people decided to try and get unstuck one more time, and did, and backed right into Nathan's car. They convinced both my boys they didn't need to give out their insurance info because it was on private property and both of their insurance would go up. WRONG!!!

Luckily Nathan had the license plate for the car and my insurance company was able to get the registered owner's name and called them. Guess what. They don't own the car anymore! So we used a card the guy gave Nathan and were able to obtain the guys first name. With that and the info the registered owner gave my insurance adjuster she was able to call the people and get their insurance info so Nathan could file a claim. They lied like crazy about everything. They are so dumb too because what they are saying happened could make them lose their coverage or their rates to go sky high. Thankfully we have witnesses to back up Nathan's story.

It's been a learning experience for both the boys. One Trevor had already gone through (with me there) when a person hit him in a parking lot. I guess the guy was nasty enough to intimidate them. Trevor (and many others) told them to give out the info but they wouldn't. They even tried to drive away. Trevor blocked them in with his truck. :) Smart thinking!

So we are still waiting....

That's so bad. People will do anything to get out of doing the right thing!! I hope it all works out good!

Here's my new saying!!

I think I might have a little silkie rooster.... but he is just sooo calm and quiet. A big push over. He doesn't show any roo characteristics. But he/she has the bumpy comb and the feathers at the wings vs the soft fuzz.... I'll have to post a pictures and see if any of you can tell. We bought him out of a mixed bunch. Do any of you havea silkie rooster with those characteristics? Our last Roo was a rhode island red and well they are completely different.

Is your Silkie alone or is it with other chicks? If it is in a group of other type of chicks is there another Roo in the group? If he is growing up in a group with another roo then he just may not be the dominate one.

My first group of chicks had two Roos and one is very out there and the other one is more quite. They are not silkies but that works like that in a lot if breeds.
I don't know just thinking out loud. Lol

Wow! I had no idea. I really hope it all works out. It's hard when you try to teach your kids to do the right thing, and help others in need and then get screwed in the process!

It has been five full days since I put my 17 four and a half weekers in the coop and run with my six 14 weekers. There was a lot of chasing and pecking in the run, but nite time in the coop was fine because I made a safe area with roosts for all the babies. The littles are no longer scared of the bigs in the run so the chasing and pecking is minimal. That is until tonite when the 16 littles that are not Cochins decided they needed the tallest six foot roosts. The bigs managed to intimidate 9 off their roost, but 7 littles are holding their ground. I finally unplugged the timer light for early dark because I'm worried about the little one closest to the bigs. She is getting pecked and challenged but will not budge! Wow! Chicken drama at its finest. Somehow I don't think my Alpha Hen is going to be from the 6 bigs!
What brave little souls!! My chickens still do NOT roost at night. They get up there during the day and hang out, but come night time, they still sleep on the ground. *sigh*

Those are cute! I'm not a big silkie fan, but they are starting to grow on me. I may have to get a couple next year when I get a few more chicks. :)

What do you do with the silkie roos if your not wanting one? I don't know if I could eat one. A regular chicken yes, but one with black skin, I don't know.

Well, I have good news, good news and bad news.

Good news 1: I sold my 6 chickens I was wanting to. Now they should have plenty of room so we won't have to hurry and add the exterior run.

Good news 2: I found this yesterday afternoon when I went out to catch the sold chickens.

The egg on the right is a ceramic egg. Not a bad size for a first time pullet egg (left). My chickens are 17 & 18 weeks old now. Hopefully more will start laying soon.

Bad news: I have NO idea who laid it!!! My luck it was one of the RIRs or Comets that I sold!! LOLOL

We got 1 1/2" of rain yesterday in about 2 hours. Yesterday morning was nice. Wind was blowing and wasn't so hot/humid as it has been.
