Thunderstorms and stuff. Wet, wet, wet chickens. And they really don't seem to care. They are hanging around the back door waiting for their morning treats. Hmmm may be a long wait cause I'm not going out there!!!

What??? You are getting rain NOW? Sun is shining in Rosenberg. To be fair, we did get 1 1/2" rain on Monday and 1/4" yesterday.

The silkies' pictures are adorable. I just don't think I could handle a bird that can't get wet. I prefer to let my birds out and not have to worry if it starts raining. I am also one of those people that like to plant things that come back year after year--NO HASSLE.

Lisa :)

We could use a good rain here!! But what is this about silkies can't get wet?? I haven't heard of this, please explain What happens? LOL
Poured!!! And it poured yesterday and on Monday! We had planned on taking the kids to splashway tomorrow but it might not happen. Rain again!!
Please go out side and fan or blow really hard and make that raiin move this way! LOL

I have actually have been hoping for a silkie rooster so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!! We have a crazy storm come through yesterday and this morning. I'm in pearland and my chickens weren't amused with the storm lol

Why can't silkies get wet?!?!? Uh oh

I have a not so fluffy silkie this am

Maybe I shouldn't take everything at face value. I had read that silkies can't get wet because they are vulnerable to the wet and cold weather. Go ahead and laugh--sometimes my brain isn't working.

That's so bad. People will do anything to get out of doing the right thing!! I hope it all works out good!

Here's my new saying!!
Can I "steal" this?
I think I need it :) Are those frizzled Polish?
I love the buff laced coloring

I think I might have a little silkie rooster.... but he is just sooo calm and quiet. A big push over. He doesn't show any roo characteristics. But he/she has the bumpy comb and the feathers at the wings vs the soft fuzz.... I'll have to post a pictures and see if any of you can tell. We bought him out of a mixed bunch. Do any of you havea silkie rooster with those characteristics? Our last Roo was a rhode island red and well they are completely different.
My Silkie Roo didn't act "rooish" at all, I had to go off physical signs. Post a pic!

We like them!

What brave little souls!! My chickens still do NOT roost at night. They get up there during the day and hang out, but come night time, they still sleep on the ground. *sigh*

Those are cute! I'm not a big silkie fan, but they are starting to grow on me. I may have to get a couple next year when I get a few more chicks. :)

What do you do with the silkie roos if your not wanting one? I don't know if I could eat one. A regular chicken yes, but one with black skin, I don't know.

Well, I have good news, good news and bad news.

Good news 1: I sold my 6 chickens I was wanting to. Now they should have plenty of room so we won't have to hurry and add the exterior run.

Good news 2: I found this yesterday afternoon when I went out to catch the sold chickens.

The egg on the right is a ceramic egg. Not a bad size for a first time pullet egg (left). My chickens are 17 & 18 weeks old now. Hopefully more will start laying soon.

Bad news: I have NO idea who laid it!!! My luck it was one of the RIRs or Comets that I sold!! LOLOL

We got 1 1/2" of rain yesterday in about 2 hours. Yesterday morning was nice. Wind was blowing and wasn't so hot/humid as it has been.
Mine STILL don't really roost at night. They all pile together..usually in little groups of 3. My chickens are clique-ish I guess...."cluckish"! lol
And Silkies are ok, but I probably wouldn't get more. Lol. Unless she whips some skill out and surprises me.
I think I'm a LF kinda girl...
Congrats on the egg!! That's exciting!

And I have no idea why a Silkie can't get wet...someone should let mine know...lol

I hope everything works out for Nathan.

Are those ceramic eggs thick? I saw a dead snake on the road and it looked like it had eaten an egg. Someone went to great lengths to flatten this snake so the 'egg' was broken, but it was much thicken than a regular egg. I'd say it was about a 1/4" thick shell. I can tell it was hollow. Really strange.

Send the rain this way too!

Silkies shouldn't get wet because they don't have the coating on their feathers that sheds water. They soak it all up. Then they can catch cold. A wet silkie is akin to a wet cat (especially the fluffy kinds).

I. am. in. love. WOW!!

Now I just need a LOT of money to work this into my house. I will need to redo the entire kitchen.... That will lead to redoing the entire inside. I mean I can't have a stellar kitchen and subpar rest of the house, right? I'd be happy with redoing just the kitchen....

Not going to happen in my lifetime. {{{sigh}}}
