Texas BYC Cafe

Are you not getting rain?? We are getting some everyday. Today, it rained not much, maybe 1/2 an inch but the temp dropped to 77!!!!!

We got a sprinkle on Sunday. That has been it. I am telling you guys there is an umbrella over our place. The high today has been 89. So much better than 102.

Lisa :)

I was trying to post but my computer's messing up. lol
Lisa, I'm so sorry about your cat....we lost ours over a year ago (and it wasn't as peaceful) and I still get sad.. Glad you're getting a bit of a break from the heat!

No one thinks the spot is pox!!

Guess we don't have an extra house guest for 3 weeks ;)

I need to order a chicken diaper for emergencies....our yard is to small to really quarantine, and we only have one bathroom so I couldn't just stick her in there.

...Plus I found cute ones that benefit charity..lol..how could I resist?

Every day? Not here. We got 0.65 inches yesterday and that is it. I'll gladly take it and more though. :)

Just keep them away from Kiera. She will be all over them. :)

I know why the chicken crossed the road!!

It was chasing a grasshopper. I saw it happen with my own eyes today when I was cycling.

The farm I stop to eat a Clifbar at has chickens and today I saw 3 or 4 turkeys. They were big! Not sure where the guineas went. It was so fun to watch them all running around. Chickens can run really fast and the turkeys, wow! I need chickens.

Henless, I was going to reply yesterday, but it was a BAD day for me. We have well water w/sulphur. We have two wells on our property. The well that goes to the coop, if I put ACV in their water it gets a black scum on it. So the coop gets clear water only. Now the waterers around the house gets ACV and comes from a different well. I don't get the black scum.

What size eggs do Ameracaunas lay?

Lisa :)
I'm sure thats the reason. We had really good water for the first couple of years, then it "turned". Lots of mining goes on around us, and everyone says that is the reason why the water is not as good as it was. Nothing bad in it, just iron ore aka sulphur. I'll try it again in a few weeks and really pay attention to see what's actually floating in it. My chickens are drinking way more water this week than last week.

I have some EE eggs to post in a bit. Unless your wanting real Ameracaunas?

Henless, how do you replenish the gallon? Aren't you suppose to move the mother to another jar when you make it?

Lisa :)
Before you pour the cup in with the mother, you need to shake that bottle up real well to break the mother up into smaller pieces. Those small pieces will inoculate the fresh bottle and the mother should develop in a couple of weeks. I would suggest, once you have a good mother going in the new gallon. pour a cup into another gallon so it can be making while your using the first gallon.

Now I haven't made any, this is just what I've gotten off of byc, one of Beekissed's post.

So sorry you had to put your kitty to sleep. It's never an easy thing to do.

Hey thanks so much for that infor...bee is quite fab!!

I got my first "rubber" egg this morning. It was waiting for me on the poop board. It was a perfect little egg, yolk and all, but had a very thin shell.

@TexasLisa ~ I never got back on to post those pics. Here they are.

Here is my first EE egg, green one. It was bigger than my smallest new eggs, but not as large as the ceramic egg you get to put in your nests.

Here on the left is my green egg I got from Rosey yesterday. It is her biggest yet! She has laid about 4 or 5 eggs so far. The green egg on the right is one of her previous eggs.

Here are the eggs I got yesterday. The first egg I got from my EE Arnet. It is a creamy, pink colored egg. This is her second egg and the first one was just as big. The second is the big green egg from Rosey. The color doesn't show up good, but its the same one as the pic above. The other two are from a BR and Aussie.

Good Morning my friends. Sorry it's been a few day since I was able to get on for any period of time. We have been deep in wedding planning. It's not until next May but I am finding that if you don't important things now then you are out of luck. So I have the venue booked, and I am working on caterer and pictures. Then Friday we are going on our first trip looking at wedding dresses. Just trying to see what she likes.
On top of this I have had my granddaughter a lot, most of the weekend and then again yesterday. My daughter is having some issues and really needs to get them under control but I am hurting bad. My shoulders and elbow are killing me. I really got to figure out what is up with this arthritis and what I can take when it get to hurting me this bad. My Mobic and Salvia is working for the normal everyday stuff. But when I do something it hurts beyond the meds. ANY WAY..... enough of that...LOL

My silkie Cluck Norris is crowing!!!! I hear a good solid little crow this morning and it was him!!
I tried to get it on video but as soon as he saw me he started doing his dance he does when I bring out treats so that was it for the crowing.

@Brookshire11
I have one of those exlarge dog crates that I use for isolation. You can use that and some kind of temporary cage as a pen. Just an idea.

I haven't used the ACV yet but I guess I might start. I use the garlic and have used it since they were babies.

I am getting about 3 eggs a day right now. Each day it seems to be a different 3, well every other day it seems to be different eggs. My BCM are only laying like every 3 days I think. Good news is I haven't had any miss fires lately and they all seem to be laying in the nests now.

@jellybean I made a Peanut butter chocolate cheesecake the other day and it was a BIG hit. I love the website name, The girl that ate everything.... that is so me these days!! LOL

@hungnguyen Your son is so cute! I know you will be so happy when your family is here with you. Thanks for the ACV article that was really good.

Ok so today I have got to get this house clean and laundry done. It is hard to get things done when you are limited by your shoulders. LOL But here we go.....

Wouldn't be hard figuring out who laid that egg..... its the one walking around with one wing covering her vent. LOL

I gave my mom 6 of my eggs and she had one that was a double yolk and it wasn't very big so that one maybe a double yolker!!

I LOVE his name...Cluck Norris..LOL!
I had one of those crates! I sold it before the girls came along...kicked myself later!
They're so used to roaming now..I'd feel bad keeping her in a cage for 3 weeks :/

Mine have slowed down on laying a bit, I think because of the heat. When do they go through juvenile molt?
I'd also like to know where my piece of cheesecake is!

I woke up to come clucking that seemed awfully close....
SOMEHOW.....My EEs, Pearl and Little Hawk, had made their way through the mudroom, into the kitchen, then into my bedroom...and onto the bed...
I'm thinking the door didn't get closed all the way last night...

Cute little alarm clocks though...lol
