Your neighbor has ducks? I didn't know there were any around here.Wow, turkeys are on the list. I'm guessing they mean wild turkeys and not the ones people would have on a farm. Ducks too. I wonder if my neighbor has a permit for hers. I bet many people don't know about this and don't get them.
I didn't see California Quail on the list. I'd like some of them. I need more land before I get into quail though so it will be a few years.
T-2 days and counting until Christmas. Is everyone ready?
I found this article on chickens on National Geographic I thought I would share.
I hope everyone has a blessed and Merry Christmas!!
Congrats on the house! Hope everything smoothly for you!Howdy ya'll. We finally closed on the house and 8 acres north of Tyler and have been going back and forth working on it. Husband is still working, so I go during the week. Got it painted and now laying floor. I picked unfinished white knotty pine, I am really a sucker for hard work.Going back up next week and try to get as much done as I can. When I get it all laid, going to whitewash it, then 3 coats of polyurethane. We planned on moving the first of the year, have moved that to maybe mid-February. Gotta get at least enough fence up for a small enclosure for the horses and a hoop coop for the chickens. Still so much work to do before we can even move!![]()
Happy New Year everybody!
Cutest Santa ever!!
Such good news!!Morning HL,
Last month I came back to Vietnam to meet my wife and Charlie. Luckily, her visa interview took place at the same time, and I was able to attend the interview, and She passed. Now her visa is just pending her health exam result which we should know by late Feb. So should the health certificate come in and the visa is issued, I plan to book tickets for my next trip in May to bring them in .... so my Happy New Year will be delayed for another 5 months.
What happened to my sisters .. Lisa and LH????
I'm so sorry that happened to you! How awful!Good morning everyone
It's another cloudy, wet, morning here, but the sun is supposed to come out at some point today. I am ready for some sunshine (and warm weather, but will be happy with the sun)! We received almost 2" of much needed rain and NO ICE!!!
Monday when I was out cycling a guy towing a trailer turned left onto the road I was on (T intersection - I had the right of way and I was riding on the shoulder- he had the stop sign) and caught me with the trailer. I yelled for him to stop before he hit me and then screamed a blood curdling scream when the trailer got me. He stopped and he and the passenger got out. The passenger (big time jerk!) told me it was my fault because there aren’t any signs for cyclists on the road. (He is wrong, I have the same right to the road as a car does.) He gave me $9 for new tape and told me to go to Walmart to get it. Right. Umm...No way! The driver was nicer, he was truly sorry and upset. He offered me a ride. I'd never get in a van with 3 strangers!
I’m very lucky I wasn’t hurt. The part of the road I was on dropped off pretty steep so I didn’t really have anywhere to go. (Bailing out into the ditch could have hurt both me and my bike.) I didn’t go down either. Not sure how I managed that. Angels watching over me!
I learned I should have called the police even though the damage was minimal. I did call later but because it was after the fact they didn't make a report. They told me to always call, even with a car accident. I was taught not to call if the damage is under a certain amount. I guess times have changed.
I got my new tape ($35) put on my bike on Wednesday. I haven't been out riding since Monday, the weather was not cooperating.I will be doing a trainer ride today. JOY! Better than no ride at all though.

Thank you! I think so too. I am not disappointed in the least, I'm just curious lolBrookshire11, she is still a pretty chick, mystery though she might be!

Those are pretty! Love the coloringI found a 'new' variety of chicken I want to get. They are just too cute!! Tiny little things too! I want to get a few just for fun.![]()
Everyone's good on my end! Haven't lost any to cold.
I did lose an Australorp to sour crop a few weeks ago :/
I also found out I have a little changeling among my Orloff babies!
I'm trying to figure out what she could be! I messaged the breeder to see what else she has in her flock.
She hatched from a tan egg, same as the others and was chipmunk patterned at hatch.
But now that she's feathering out, her coloring is not the same and her legs are greenish, not orange.
I love little mysteries! lol

There's a slight chance, if she has a rooster with that gene...Thanks! DH helped me a lot. It takes me a while to do something like that. I have to take a lot of breaks, lol.
Those are pretty! Love the coloring
Sorry about your Australorp.
I had one of my EE's go from yellow legs to a slate color. She doesn't lay a blue or green egg. Her's is a real pale pink. Any chance your's could be an EE?
I will say if anyone is needing something to keep their water from freezing, I highly recommend the Cookie Tin Water Heater. It works really good. There was ice covering the dog bowls this morning, but my horizontal nipples were working and no ice was in the bucket. I even bought some half price cookies at Walmart after Christmas just so I would have a couple more tins put back for later use.![]()
She'll probably go broody again in the Spring..I would NOT be surprised. For those wondering about winter and chickens....
I got this on my FB wall today. I guess it is getting pretty cold up north. Shoot, it's getting pretty cold here too this week. Snow (horrible 4-letter word!) is even in the forecast.
And, for those wondering about Olandsk dwarf chickens, I got this info from a former breeder.
They are bigger than seramas but smaller than bantams, I would never house them with large fowl. Easy to care for, eat a little, hens go broody, but chicks are fragile and they were not the best moms- but I had no problem raising the chicks in a brooder. I would say they were more flighty than friendly, but they were very cute.
Brynn - I think I need to get some eggs for Blue to hatch for me next time she goes broody.I guess that could be a while from now though since she still has 'her' babies. They can have their own little place in with the big girls I am getting.

Or maybe I will just get some Swedish Flower Hens. they look similar.

Hello all an update on my 1st hatch in my home made incubator. It holds 60 eggs and out of the 60 eggs 41 chicks hatched. I post them on my facebook page and they all sold so fast they was still hatching the last few. I ended up with 3 easter eggers left. I just set 60 more eggs Monday but most of these are ether sold or for my on stock. I will have some chicks left out of the ones for me after they all grow some so I am sure they are hens or roosters. I have 23 easteregger eggs but I have 12 sold already so what ever is left when done will be up for sell. I also have 12 Americana's for me. I am looking to get 1 rooster to go with my hens. I will have the hens for sell as soon as I know which ok e I am keeping. There is also 25 Aricana eggs that I am looking to get 10 BBR tuft hens from. All others will be sold. The breeds I have that I will be hatching for now are

Breeds I am working on to have are
Americanas to replace the ee
Aricanas BBR
