How well does the 1/2" stand up to storms? Being in florida I want to make this thing as hurricane proof as possible.

Not so much size of plywood but how it is fastened, and how well the frame work it's fastened too is built.
You might want to start a new thread titled something like "Building coop for Hurricane".

Great coop! What was your total cost?

About 2k including feeders, waterers, eight nesting boxes, and chickens. Lumber was about $1600. All wood was ground contact pressure treated, hardware cloth and tin made up a large chunk of the cost.

Did you cement the 4x4's in the the ground, or just drop them in and pack dirt around them? How deep did you put them?

Two ft. down set with concrete.

I've seen it recommended that the whole be 3x the size of what you're putting in it. How big were yours?

We used a standard post hole digger, didn't measure exactly but it was quite a bit wider than the post on all sides.

That sounds more like how you plant a tree.

I wanted to post my coop in case anyone else is looking for a hot weather coop design! The coop/open run is 280 sq ft, with an added mobile extension coming later on to give the chickens access to fresh grass and bugs. Here it goes! Wow, that is one impressive build.

I live in north Texas and wind up here can get pretty intense. How well will this coop handle that? Will the open air design with the wind bother the birds?
