Everyone is probably out in the garden.

I know that's where I've been lately. How are ya'lls gardens handing the bad weather, if you're getting it?All my mammoth sunflowers are laying flat after the 60 mile hour winds and heavy rain we dealing with tonight

I'm a newbie at gardening, too, and I think I'm losing the battle with the grasshoppers!
Where are your chickens?

Our garden was looking lousy because of all the tiny baby grasshoppers chewing everything. Since parking the chicken tractor by the garden and letting the chickens roam around, in just the first couple of days, many of the hoppers moved elsewhere. I know the chickens did not eat that many of them in just a couple of days, but apparently just having their house parked by the garden is keeping the hoppers controlled. We would go out there and everything was just covered in hoppers, including our legs as we walked. Now, there are a few still in the garden area, but not as many and I'm seeing new growth coming up in place of chewed up leaves. I did fence off the garden beds - got some plastic garden fence and stapled it to wooden plant stakes and put it around the beds so the chickens couldn't get to the plants. But most of the time when I am letting them out of their tractor, they aren't even staying by the garden, they are following the grasshoppers elsewhere.

If your chickens aren't near your garden, try to get them there and see if it works for you as well as it has worked for us.

I didn't get the big winds. My garden is mostly doing well. I'm getting lots of squash and onions. I feed the swiss chard and grape leaves to the chickens. My peaches were bad this year. I think the late frosts got them. I hope to have tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant soon.

I've been able to stake up most of the plants that got blown over in the bad storms we got. Supposed to have some more storms come through tomorrow. Now I have ants galore. I'm hoping to get guineas next year to try to keep some of the ants and other bugs away.

I'm jealous you're getting anything out of your garden. The late frosts killed my first planting so I'm just now getting flowers from my squash, tomatoes and cucumbers.

Don't feel bad, you're not the only one. Didn't even bother getting anything into the ground until late since we kept having so many late frosts and freezes.

Hey all. I would like to join the gardening fun.
I didnt realize this thread was here. I have a small garden 30x30. I grew some collard greens and onions earlier this year. Right now I have purple hull and cream peas, corn, tomatoes, jalapeno and bell peppers growing.
There are some nice garden pics here.
