Yeah the new tin on the roof is the Home Depot stuff but the sides are old tin I had laying around the place from other old barns I dismantled! I would have like to have got the heavy tin but its so expensive and my budget won't allow it! :( My wife even offered to help last night but I told her I didn't want our daughter around all those sharp edges! She's pretty accident prone and I don't want any trips to the er!!!!

There isn't enough money in the world to convince me to buy another brinsea.. their customer service is horrible.. I havegotten a bunch that were DOA, had bad wiring (fire hazard) and had temp issues where the temperature would be fine for days.. then start climbing with no end in sight (120+ degrees results in cooked embryos...)
That's a shame. You must really have gotten some lemons. Ours has been nothing short of perfect as far as working well, ease of use, and actually keeping a constant temperature and humidity, despite the major fluctuations of the house temperature.

After getting the Genesis to use as a hatcher, and seeing how they make these little Styrofoam things...heck, if I had time, I'd just build my own incubator and probably wind up with one that actually kept the temperature at a constant a LOT better than these Styrofoam things yet be cheaper than a Brinsea.

Quote: feed stores can not take in any chicks unless the breeder has passed disease testing (you would need to contact a vet).. I believe the flock has to be NPIP certified
I have been told that the same applies for things like selling at flea markets

90% of the people selling on craigslist don't have any testing done or have any permits

selling at auctions requires having typhoid / pullorun testing done.. can usually be done on site of the auction grounds (you can check and see if a vet will be available or not). I know Iduma Sales usually has a vet on site on auction days
thank you for the reply. I found in another thread that the test for typhoid and pullorun can be done for free, but what is a NPIP certificate?

here's a thread on it.. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/367214/npip-certification-in-texas

I've never looked into it myself because I have issues with the government sticking their nose in my business..lol (my husband is in the military.. so yeah.. I'm a bit sick of the government)

I admit it... I spent way too much money at Brinsea's website
I think I have bought more of their products than anyone else here on BYC... so yeah.. the more you buy from them the greater the chance of getting lemons

the "straw that broke the camel's back" so to speak was getting products with exposed wires (fire hazards) straight out of the box... and have their customer service try to say it was my fault that the quality control in their factories was worthless...
sorry.. but when ship me products that are faulty and a fire hazard .. how is that my fault again?

sad thing is when I first started buying their stuff I was on here promoting it right and left... I quit that pretty quick after dealing with their customer service on several occasions...

Oh this day is going so sloooow!!!! Nothing going on at work today and they won't let me go home cause something might come up!! Darn it and they don't care that I have a coop to finish!!!
