Texas

Our farm is just outside of Fredericksburg it's so nice to be in the country then drive a few miles and be in such a lovely little town!!!!
I will take and post some pics of our flock here tomorrow and update it next time we are up there!!! I was also wondering we wanted to be able to sell eggs (for eating not fertile) any ideas on how we usually just sell to friends family but would like to start selling more to help cover the high feed prices.

It's so beautiful out there! Being in the country is one of the great joys I get when I go up there.

While I know a lot of people don't feel comfortable doing this, you can go on Craigslist and advertise your eggs there. It's simple and you can arrange to meet away from your home so you don't have strangers coming up to your front door.

Or, if you don't mind people coming up to your house, put up a pretty wooden sign in front of your house with "Eggs for Sale" or "Farm Fresh Eggs" on it. That'll get passerby to see that you have them and you'll have a much larger market. I believe you have to be certified to sell farm fresh eggs outside of your own property, so this way you have the freedom to sell your eggs without any legal problems. And when you run out of eggs or if you decide you don't want to sell anymore, just take the sign down and you're good to go!

I hope this helps! I normally sell my eggs to friends/family/neighbors, so I don't really need to put myself out there that much. However, my dad wants to sell more, so we'll probably end up putting a sign out.

You'll have people stop by even when the sign is down if they've bought from you before. I never was bothered by it but just beware. Once some people have good eggs like that they will be persistent about getting more. Makes for good friendships sometimes.

Hey guys just saying hi from San Antonio!!! Here in our back yard we have 10 chickens and 9 more on the way we currently have three silkie chicks 2 Rhode Island reds 2 barred rock and 2 white leg horns. We have 4 assorted rare and 5 assorted brown egg layers coming September 9th. In addition we have 4 dogs they are 3 boxers and a little old fat Boston terrier a rescue orange tabby named tigger. Also hi from Fredericksburg where we have a ranch up there we have 2 heifers (mom and daughter) Betsy and Velma and we also have 8 layers up there I'm not sure what breed they are. Sorry for the long post I just love talking about our animals!!!!
Hi!!! We have an 9 yr old boxer! Totally Love the goofy breed! My mom had a Boston.. love them too! We have 5 - 12 week old babies, and a flock of 10 adults.. of course chicken math has grabbed us so not sure how many we will end up with.. lol

I was wondering if anyone in the DFW area (closer to the Ft Worth side preferably) has a hen/pullet for sale so I can replace my dearly departed Ms. Ruth. The others are 14-16 weeks old so I would like one roughly the same age/size. I'm interested in a black australorp or ameraucana but I'm open to other breeds. No buff brahmas or dominiques as I've already got them. Doesn't need to be show quality. Just healthy and happy. I can't have a roo.

If you have something, would you please pm me?

Didn't I see some Conroe people on here???? I may be headed that way today to look at a dog in the animal shelter...if he is still there.

So, if you hear any stories about a weird chicken lady looking for a dog, you'll know it's ME! :D

Who did you find them from?  I am in Pleasanton and really want some!

It's taken me 3 years. If you join the national club or join the jersey thread here on BYC
you will find some resources. Maria Hall, Bobbi Porto, and Wyanette Adamson sell them.
If you look in Poultry Press Duane Urch's has some.
Wade Burkhalter will sell you some if you can pick them up.
I had to have a friend meet him at a rabbit show and bring me my hen.
If you contact Bob Vaughn, the secretary of the jersey giant club, he may have something
for you. I bought hatching eggs for $100 a dozen. You can also get some through McMurray hatchery. I did that in the beginning, but eventually placed those birds. Good luck in your search.
If you can't find any by the end of winter feel free to contact me here at BYC. I'd be happy to help you get started.
Diane
