My momma chicken is setting 8 eggs and they're due really soon! Can't wait!![]()
Best way is to lock it in the coop for about 3 days. Then it'll go back in at night because it knows that's a safe place to be.Does anyone know if it is possible to take a 'wild' chicken that doesn't know what a coop is so totally free range.. to roost in the coop at night and nest in a nesting box? Has anyone done this? LOL

Seems like once they figure out it that a coop is safe, warm, and sheltered they will go on in.
I just did this recently. There was an American Game hen that lived in a field next to me for 21/2 years. She kept coming closer and closer hanging out with my girls when they were free ranging. She finally put herself up with my hens one evening and has been here ever since. She is still very jumpy, and don't even try and pick her up. She took right to the nesting box and laid an egg a day from the first day on until I took them and put them in the bator. That was 4 weeks ago and she hasn't laid again yet. I did get some babies though.Does anyone know if it is possible to take a 'wild' chicken that doesn't know what a coop is so totally free range.. to roost in the coop at night and nest in a nesting box?
