GOOD MORNING FELLOW TEXANS!!

Congratulations to those who got the rain yesterday. We are still waiting...... God has been putting on a light show all night. Really neat to watch.

Lisa :)

Good morning everyone! (I beat Lisa to it this morning!!) :D

Mandy - I have Red Stars but they don't have any dark markings...just red and spotty white at (nearly) 8 weeks.

It looks like we have had a bit of rain but far eastern Bastrop County had some pretty good showers roll through there according to radar.

We are busy getting the house ready for our refi appraisal on Monday. I am not worried about it but I'm not fond of strangers strolling through my house!

Italia - I want to plant some Fall flowers and am thinking about mums....what else would be good to plant this time of year?

Mums? Pew........ I would go with asters. You asked... he he. I used to have a boss who was a little off. Full of motherly love but off and she loved mums and I have come off with a bit of non-mum love. That and I used to sling them like candy in the money market so I have developed a very sour taste.
The best time about this year in my opinion is to watch garden centers like a hawk for sales. Some things look scraggely right now and after the first freeze things that are fine look awful and are cents on the dollar. I have thousands of dollars worth of plants that I got for pennies. Have fun!

Lisa, you get up way to early! I thought I was up early. You must get the very best worms....he he.... tooo early to really be funny..... I will work on that later.

I use cast iron for cooking all of the time. I keep a 8", 10" and a comal in my oven and a reversible griddle on my stove at all times.

Season it well. don't use soap until it has a really REALLY black finish like Teflon all over it. I use some soap now, but DO NOT EVER use a wire scrub on it!!

I love my cast iron.

I second this. It is a wonderful addition to any household that hates doing dishes. I only have cast iron and some glass. Mmmmm

NEVER use soap only animal fat...... why use soap? That defeats the whole point. I ask with love my dear and a small smack. Do not use soap on good eat'n!

I have an old skillet and some other assorted things - think a griddle and a corn bread pan. Haven't used them in years but going to try new way for seasoning them that I read about that sounded like it might do a better job than I've done in the past - it requires multiple oilings and bakings to get a good finish on it. And finally bought a dutch oven recently. Like you, I'm wanting to use the cast iron and throw out the no-stick skillets we have.
Bacon baby it is all about bacon!

Does anyone use cast iron for cooking?  I bought a dutch oven a few years back, started using it recently.  It is super heavy but I LOVE cooking with it.  So I just bought a 12, 10, 8 & 6.5 inch.  Can't wait to start using them. Hoping to get rid of all my "no stick" pans and just use these.

I made the switch last year. It's a little more maintenance, but way better than no-stick. The chemicals in no-stick pans can kill birds if they are heated too high. Yikes!

My first piece (a chicken roaster from Lodge) is the one I use the most, closely followed by my 12" skillet. I love my cast iron!

That is the method I use. It works the best with very thin coatings of flaxseed oil. You'll be amazed at how quickly you get a slick, black finish. I do find that I still have to store my cast iron with a thin coast of fresh oil despite this seasoning method, though.

We have an induction cooktop which I really like and so have only iron cookware.
