Texas

Found this on the road right in front of my property. I think I accidentally hit it on my way home to drop something off, I noticed it when I was leaving. Hopped out of the car to see what kind it was and it could not move it's head, it was just flipping around. So I took a quick pic then hopped back in the car and finished it off. I was wearing flip flops and did not want to risk get bit but could tell it was not going to make it, so it is dead now.

"Red on yellow, poison fellow; red on black, safe from attack." or "Red touch black, you're OK Jack; Red touch yellow, you're dead fellow".

Coral snakes are so pretty. I almost stepped on one a few weeks ago when I was out running. Fortunately I saw it first, or I might have been in trouble; they're poisonous!

I was always told it was "red on yellow, kill a fellow. red on black, friend of jack." Similar.

Anyway, I'm finding I need to get rid of 3 of my young cockerels. Thought I'd try here first. They are all Easter Eggers and none have shown any aggression to each other, the hens/pullets or people. 7 roosters in a subdivision is a bit much, so out of the 5 youngsters, I'm only going to keep two. I'm sure about one, but haven't completely made up my mind yet on who will be the 2nd keeper. Anyone interested?

Dark brown cockerel, named Rocky:

Sandy - mom was a buff orpington. Loves to chase squirrels and blue jays. Can't decide whether to keep him or Rocky.

Brown beard - almost identical in looks to the dad, Mr. Feathers, so he'll be going for sure.

Black beard, also too close in looks to my Mr. Feathers.

Rachael - YIKES!!! The rain is going to bring snakes out for sure!

Yep, I did feel bad, because the first time I hit it, it was not intentional, but I had to put it out of pain. After reading about them, they tend to be a snake that takes off and does not attack. At the same time with 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 kids, not really a risk I want to take. Kids KNOW not mess with any snakes and the dogs seem to have a natural instinct to stay away. Funny enough, there was just a snake skin on the ground and my big boy, saw it right was he was running over it and I swear he jump 4 feet up and 4 feet over to avoid it. I saw it happen, went to check it out and it was just the skin, but he knew what it meant. The kittens on the other hand would attack, they already killed a little garden snake.

Here are my 3 musketeers. Yes, out of 15 pics, this was the best one I got! They move so quick.

I took some photos of the chickens tonight. Not as good as Jungle's but he has inspired me to learn more about my camera.

I think it's a brown leghorn pullet, 10 wks.

My husband's favorite, Buff Cochin named Golden Girl. 5 years.

Peepers. Welsummer father, EE'r mother. He has double spur nubs on one leg.

Red Star production, two EE'rs...Blondie and Mossy. 10 wks.
