Texas

I have a question. Take anybody in Texas there chickens into a chickencoop or shelter. It is not really cold here in the winter.
Was just wondering, cause this will be my first winter with chickens and like to hear about your experiences.

I've got big windows on all sides of my coops. I will close the windows when we get into the low 30's. I don't use heat lamps in the coops at all. They don't need them. Their body temps run around 110 degrees and when it gets cold, they cram really close together to stay toasty. Sometimes I can't tell where one chicken begins and another ends!

During the summer, for contrast, they roost with about 3-4 inches between them.

she was "offended" because I offered packing tips! said I was on my own...I just told her she's not out anything I am and to have a blessed day! I think she should care more but she just wanted to be right!

I didn't wash them I wiped them with a damp rag because they were practically dripping! UGH!! couldn't risk contaminating the incubator to that extent

*SIGH* some people...

It is when a hen lays on eggs with the intent to hatch them. Her body will provide the perfect temperature and she'll rearrange the eggs daily to insure a good hatch.

Oh wait maybe im just now figuring it out.....sorry your gonna be me "guinea" pig ahahahahah!! little "fowl" humor!

No. The rooster just scratched the earmuffs off. The rooster decided to roost outside my dad's bedroom window and my dad did not care much for roosters crowing at night. He ended up being soup. My dad did try though. He made a little hood so he could not see light. That did not work. He made the ear muffs for him. That did not work. He made a muzzle for him. He still crowed while muzzled (funniest thing you ever heard!

). He tied a rope to his roost that went to his bed where he could shake him off the roost if he crowed. The dumb bird just would not learn.
