I'd been raising roosters for almost half a century, and I heard once a young boy complained that his hen wouldn't hatch anything 'cause his stag did not know how to top. I was not sure if the young boy knew how to either. Well, where is uncle Hung?

If this one needs teaching, I'll send him to you for a couple weeks...

They do sex the chicks. When you order the pullets, They give a disclaimer that they are only 90% accurate. My first order was 20 leghorns pullets. All 20 were girls!
OK, I was confused. I thought a pullet was a little bit older chick. Called them and found out that pullet is a female. Looked it up and found out others thought as I did and that a pullet is a female. Earned my natural blonde today!

I also found out that they would ship 10-15 extra chicks (males) for extra stability in shipping. What the heck would I do with 10-15 roo chicks? They are supposed to be easy to tell apart from my ordered chicks. If I were closer to them I would drive down and get them....

I wonder if there are some hatcheries closer to me.

I just had an odd thing happen....I was holding my BO that started laying about a month ago, and as I'm holding her she plopped out an egg that had no shell, just membrane, and she had layed a normal egg this morning. Is that normal or should I be worried?

VERY normal for early layers. No worries.

Edited to say: I bet that was pretty gross, too!!

Here is the first "egg" I received about five years ago from an EE'r it had fallen to the ground under the roost:

Thanks Tammy! I thought she had pooped on me, but when it hit my side it was really heavy, I thought " oh no I scared the poop out of her!" It wasn't so gross, but I was shocked, I was letting my neighbors granddaughter pet her and out it came! Lol, just glad I don't need to worry!

If it happens again, just make sure she has access to oyster shell. Wait until she lays a real itty-bitty egg that we call a "fart egg". :D

I got my first one of those a short while back. I go to check my eggs only to find 3 normal large blue eggs, 2 normal extra large brown eggs and this teeny little pip of an egg that was even smaller than my bitty bantam eggs!

It was too cute and too funny.

This is the first time she's had anything like that happen, she's been laying normal, smallish sized eggs for a month! My EE started two weeks after her and she's laying long tall ones, larger than Goldie's. I'd been whining for so long that nobody had laid yet, she laid the first one right at my back door, as if to say "here's your egg, now shut up!" Lol
