Texas

Okay, over 2100 pages in Texas!!! I just want to say howdy y'all. We're living in Mission TX in the Rio Grande Valley and have decided to raise laying hens. My wife grew up on a chicken farm in Alberta and I am from Mississippi (no chicken experience). I truly hope to learn from everyone here.

I grew up in Harlingen, you guys shouldn't have to worry about freezing weather very often. Is this Arctic/Polar/ front/Vortex thingy going to reach you down there?

My partner reported most chicks died when the power was out !

I am still in Houston, just took a long nap and ready to drive home. Michelle was able to re-route to Houston and now about to board another flight to get back to Atlanta, then drivehhome to GrGreenville SC

Oh there was a JG cock that was absolutely a GIANT, impressive to see, I have no idea how they got him in through the door of the show cage. The RIR cockerel that won CH American was huge also. You could walk these guys like a dog or maybe ride them, lol.
Yes, HUGE would describe several of the cockerels at the show including but not limited to the JG. The little tabletop Seramas and the D'uccles were on the other side of the spectrum and high on the cuteness factor.

welcome surfdok byc texas style ...chickens are a great experience there is quite a bit of knowledge here just ask anything and someone will have the answer.. good luck . nice part of the world down there :)

Welcome Surkdok.
The temp got down to 22 here last night. I worried about Cupcake who is in full molt and has few feathers. She did fine. I do not use lights or heaters.
I am lucky in the Summer because the girls coops are under shade trees and they get to free range so they get up under bushes in shaded areas.
