Texas

Morning everyone!
Its really pretty out today!
I lost the last of my sicklings an hour ago. 9 total.
Ive got 6 healthy, energetic chickies left.
Im going to go ahead and start thinking about naming now lol. Its kind of a relief, not having anymore to constantly watch and worry over.

Granthamkk, sorry about your girl! Hope its nothing serious and she recovers quickly!

I am picking up these three pretty girls tomorrow to add to my flock! I am so excited! My lil lonely hen won't be so alone any more. =)

Brynn - I am so sorry you lost so many chicks. Have you called the Meyer's yet?

ShadowsFIAL - glad you found some young birds for your girl. :)

It is really windy today!! I went cycling with my friend and the 22mph winds were horrible to ride home in, especially when you added some hills into the mix. Good ride though. Nice to be outside and not in the trainer. :)

House is clean, laundry is almost done. I think I will head out for some onion sets for the garden. I need to plant them this week.

Kind of jealous! Where did you find them? I'm in Fort Worth and haven't seen much nearby. I'm looking for a couple to add to my two.

Make sure you quarantine them.

I'm getting some Araucana chicks this spring. Tell me what you think of yours.

granthamkk, I found them in Tyler Texas, they were the last few birds she had. I got super lucky! I was tempted to get some sikies but I didn't know how well they would fare in this flock, cause I found a lady south of ft worth selling some silkie hens in show and pet quality. I wish I knew how broody these hens would be, I want a hen that will hatch out lil ones eventually.

Awesome, I'm glad your hen has friends coming. Silkies are known to be very Broodie, which is why I don't want any (fear of males that I'd have to kill or get rid of)

Why would you fear having males? Just don't leave her any eggs to hatch. I've been very surprised that sometimes when my Silkies are broody, they still lay a lot of eggs. Silkies are the best for incubating eggs. They used them to hatch falcon eggs when they were trying to bring back the species from the brink of extinction in the 70s. Still do, apparently.

Yeah, theyre going to just credit my card back for the 9 that didnt make it.
The lady is really sweet but Im not chancing it from that place again. I talked to hubby and we're keeping all 6 that are left. I have both the breeds I originally wanted, plus 2 extra birds. So I guess in the scheme of things its not a total loss. I just feel bad that so many didnt make it. What a tough little life. I did try to makebthem as comfortable as possible though, while they were here.
Now its my turn to clean! Ive got a small mountain of laundry to do, plus clean the brooder again, and vacuum.
Where are you getting the onions from? This weather has given me the gardening bug bad! My friend dropped off a bunch of catalogs, including one full of some really beautiful heritage varieties.
I still need to build my raised bed though..lol
Until then I have plenty of medicinals to plant! Chamomile, Calendula, Valerian, Skullcap...i better get my compost back up and running lol. Ive been slacking
