The icicles are longer than when I took pictures of them at 12:30 p.m. Should I wrap them when it goes down to the teens next Monday or Tuesday? I think I'm okay for their temperature so far, but not crazy to see ice in the crowns of the Sago palms. I still have ice on the ground. Some is gone, some is slush, some is ice.

I had a guy who used to farm for a living tell me once that it's not the ice that kills plants, its the sun reflecting from the ice crystals that burns the plant. Now, I have done no research on this and it sounds a little wives-tale'ish to me.

If you can wrap them and the sago I would. Even just throwing a sheet over them will help trap some heat. If using a thin sheet, some of the leaves that touch the sheet may still get damaged.

The BEST advice I can give is to wrap them in Christmas lights. The type that generates heat (I don't think the LED type makes heat). Wrapping them with Christmas lights plus a thin sheet should be enough.

Send me the recipe, too, please.

When I was in Saudi Arabia, I had a maid that made yogurt for the kids all the time. She used powdered milk. I just don't remember whether she made it up to be regular milk strength or it was concentrated.
I bought the vegan starter from Cultures for Health and followed the directions. I also downloaded their free e-book and read on their site about making yogurt. The one thing I did that was not in the box directions was to add sugar to the milk for the starter to eat. Almond milk has a low sugar amount so you need to add some.

Mine is still culturing away. Apparently even though a thickener is optional for dairy free yogurt it is best. I didn't use a thickener. The lady I chatted with on the Cultures for Health site recommended Pomona's pectin and gave me directions on how much to use. Mine won't get real thick. :/ It will still be usable though and I can thicken it with chia seeds. I have that!

Here is a link for the free ebooks they have. Making dairy yogurt is easy and you can make it with some store bought yogurt as the starter. Here is a recipe for crock pot yogurt. I haven't tried it, but everything else on the site that I have tried has worked and is good.

Tammy's idea for the palms is good advise. Just be sure to wrap the sheet of blanket under the lights. You don't want to start them on fire!

Does anyone know where I can get Swedish Flower Hens in Texas?
I'm also looking for a red golden pheasant hen to add to my pheasant family.

The big palms should be ok.  The sago may or may not.  It depends on how much cold it got.  I would cover it if it is getting cold again.

I've got a sago as well that are up close to the house and I've got my fingers crossed that they make it.

The big palms are Mediterranean Palms.  I don't think it got as cold as it has.  The sago palms are by the house.  We're going to get a lot colder weather in a few days.

Thanks for the advice.

Lois, I can't remember if it was on one of the other threads here that I saw it, or on the FB page some of us participate in, but there was a guy who had the red golden pheasants. I remember because they were beautiful!

I'll try to find it and post the link on this thread if I do.

I would also suggest you try doing a search under the breeds thread for either one.

Welcome from Rosenberg! Do you have chickens now? If so, what kind? Be prepared to be enabled in your quest for chickens! :)

Lisa :)

I love the way Murphy is looking in this one. They are getting back to their adventurous selves. Murphy flew over the chicken fence to explore the yard, even though the gate was open. Juliette went through the gate and then they explored my daughter's play house. It was so fun to watch them wander around.
