GREAT BIG THANK YOU!

Upon closer examination of my flock IN SUNLIGHT I have found redness issues in 4 of my 9 chickens.
I do believe it to be mites and will dust each one with wood ash until I can get to store for DE.

Thank you for your assistance in diagnosing I was only concerned about the 1 roo since his was so very apparent that he was uncomfortable. I checked everyone else but did not look further than vent area today I checked the entire undercarriage.

Does anyone know of a good article on routine inspections of the flock and how to do it for beginners?

I am feeling bad today because I think if I knew what I was looking for they may not be so red today.

Double check the connection, maybe some plugs are loose. Also try the best IT trick, turn it off then on again. Since you change your PC, my guess is your printer software has to be loaded into the"new" PC again. Good luck
I unplugged/plugged several times, turned off & on printer, checked connections :barnie I only changed monitors-same Mac computer-would that cause the printer software to have to be retuned? :(

Have you tried using Castor Oil on your chickens' legs?

Beautiful Spring day here in CenTex (although a little windy)... Excited to finally be able to build my chicken tractor this weekend! Birdies coming soon! Got a good jump on composting in the fall and have had a worm bin going a few months. Tomatoes and strawberries growing in containers and arugala/spinach/cilantro going in my small scale aquaponics experiment. Finally feels like I'm getting somewhere instead of just planning/dreaming! After chicken tractor, raised bed garden is next!
Really windy here today too. Very nice otherwise. My allergies are horrible right now though. I think we can say it is Spring!

I live in van 2-3 hours from dfw not really willing to go that far was hoping someone could send chicks
Check DFW Craig's list. People post in it from pretty far out. Also check to see if your county has a farm/poultry facebook page. You can post/look there. Check the Tyler area too.

I unplugged/plugged several times, turned off & on printer, checked connections

Try powering down the Mac and printer then turning everything on again. You may need to reinstall the printer software. Check to make sure it is the default printer still too.

Sunday (or Monday) is 'the' day for silkie chicks!

I'll find out Sunday morning how the hatching is going.

I think I am going to get this cute hutch for my coop. No modifications necessary except for a perch and nest box. Maybe a bit more ventilation at the top. I have a coupon code to get it for less. :) I'm going to paint it to match my trim and might need to sturdy it up some too.

Mo progress:

I have one more roof panel to cut and the rest of the ridge to install and the roof is DONE!

Roost and poop tray. It's coated in the BlackJack Rubber roof patch that the floor is coated in. Should make it good and waterproof. The poop tray will have that PDZ stuff in it to keep smells done and make it easier to clean up. I have one of these on each side of the coop.

Covered the windows in 2 layers of welded wire. I think it should be good enough. Might add a layer of chicken wire over it as well.

How it looks from the door. Floor is covered in rubber coat, but I am still going to do the deep litter method on the floor using pine shavings. I'm also debating hanging my chick brooder above the nesting boxes and making door that swings down for access. Chickens will be moving in ASAP!
Looks Great!

Oh man, I had that happen to mine last year!!! I feel your pain. That was not a fun time for me. My daughter was in the hospital for a month due to premature labor, her husband was gone in the air force, I quit my job to stay and help her, and my car had to go into the shop. Talk about expense and bad timing. Oh Girl, I feel your pain!
Oh no!
That happened to me:/ I only lasted 4 days in the hospital though. Had a Christmas Eve baby and spent the holidays there.
He only spent 15 days in the NICU though, which could have been worse. :)

I talked to my mom and she thinks Janet's idea is a really good one. I think I will pick up the silkie chicks this weekend. I have everything I need for them right now. I just need to borrow Brynn's heat light. I cancelled my heat plate order. Now I may never need it. :) I am saving money!

Car is fixed and back home. :) I don't go out much, but I really like having the car here in case I want to. I feel so trapped when the car is gone.

Let me know when you want it!
Have you ever checked for mites? Look through his feathers if you see tiny moving dots or lil white clusters at the base of the feathers then you got mites.
How do chickens get mites?

Mine have just started going outside, since the weather has been nice.

have you tried overstock.com Search pet houses. They have 10% off coupons all of the time. We bought this one, and paid about $156 and used it for a brooder. Its more right now but you can sign up for email alerts for products you like to let you know when they drop.

Very cute! Are we saying 'yes to the coop'???

What does the castor oil do?
You rub it on their legs. It will suffocate the mites plus get rid of the dry scales. Usually takes one application. In the winter time, if you live in the COLD region, put it on the rooster's comb and wattle to prevent frostbite.

You will like the tray under coop/roosting area. The poop falls in it and you can slide it out and dump it. I have a tray like that on my tractor. I sprinkle some sand in it to absorb liquids and it makes it easier to clean. When I started using the sand some little bugs that were crawling around left. I think I saw one like this at our local farm store.
