Texas

Just came in to cool off and have a snack.

Little gang is really enjoying the outside. Too funny... We thought we could just put them in a tote and take them out....Oh so wrong...They flew right out of it, had to chase a couple around the chicken house. Had to put them in a transport cage. It should be interesting rounding them up later to put them back in their coop.

Back to work...Magpie
Magpie, on another thread of BYC I was reading to leave the coop light on a little bit longer at night so the little ones will find their way to the coop. I did that for the first few nights and they did find their way in. They were in the corner all huddled together.

Good luck!

Lisa :)

Harley's liked Fox News. Kept them quiet. ;)
I forgot about that!

They were driving me so crazy, we actually left...I half expected to come home to a drown one but they all seem to have calmed down and are doing good. I think next year we will stick with chicks...

Thanks so much! My older 3 are teenagers and then #4 is 6 and #5 is 19 months. I let them hold them for a minute and taught them how and taught the baby to "pet" with one finger and gently ao I think we're good! Thwyre havin a good time just watching them peck and eat and drink. I

yeah just be careful with the young one. They cant help it.
My 3yo grabbed one the second day and I found an air bubble under the skin later. It passed away that night. I THINK she may have punctured a lung

That is an excellent idea. Our penned area is big and basically partially cleared forest land. I'm very afraid my six 'teenagers' will get lost out there. I haven't let them out yet. They are 5 weeks old and have yet to go outside.

I found the cheapest dog treat I have seen lmba. I went to get a glass of tea a month ago and my two dogs was staring at me so I gave them a piece of ice each. Now every time me or my hubby go get ice they think they are getting a treat. Lmbo I love my dogs. They keep me laughing I never know what they are gonna do next

My dog loves ice too.

I make her dog treats and I keep them in the freezer.  She thinks when ever I am in the freezer for something she needs a treat and comes and sits there.

It is so funny cause when other people come over the dogs run up to them and just sit there and the people are like good boy. I am like no they want ice. And they look at me like I just said the dog is gonna take u out lol

That's a good idea. These guys only got to go out into a playpen today. It's a fiber glass ring about 4ft across and maybe 20inch tall. I took a pic will post it later. We still haven't built them their own run yet. they will be about 4wks old Sunday. But are starting to outgrow their little coop. Weren't oo hard to catch either, just grab one by one and put them in the transport cage. Gotta run... bible study tonight.

everything I read says dont handle them but my kids are gonna be gaga for them so is it ok for them to cuddle a bit or shpuld I be mean mom and say hands off??
I let my 4 yr old granddaughter hold our all the time. She would hold them, and I kept my hand around hers to keep the chicks from jumping out. She loves to go out there with the chicks. She picks grass/leaves for them and sticks them through the wire. They run up to the fence for treats when they see her coming.

Just went to Tractor Supply just to look at their Wednesday delivery. They had about 5 feather footed bantams mixed in with the Meat chicks! That just was not right so I bought 4 of them. The other had a deformed foot and had to go to the back room

. I will take pics tomorrow. I'm not even home today. My hubby had to drop me off back at church to cook and run home to set up the brooder!
Yeah!!!! More chicks!!!

Tonight I'm letting my babies put themselves to bed. I usually go out every evening to put them back in the brooder. I'll say "C'mon babies, it's bedtime. Time to go to bed." Here they come all in a row up the ramp. Then I usually shut the brooder door. Tonight I'm leaving it open and see if they all get up there by themselves.

In the summer time I would put ice in my Corgi's water bowl to help keep him cool. He would take out every piece of ice and lay them on the floor. Then he would eat it. I liked ice, just not in his water.

Cleaned out the shavings in the brooder today and put in fresh. I finally got my boards up in front of the nests to keep the babies from roosting there. I had a couple of them eyeing them over the weekend, so thought I better get it done asap.

Give the chicks half a head of cabbage today. You would think I was trying to poison them. They thought it was some monster in their treat bowl the way they carried on. I checked back around lunch, and someone had been nibbling on it. By this afternoon, it was all gone but a couple of leaves.

On an unhappy note, got a letter from my Dr. this week. Seems he is/has resigned and I'll have to look for a new Dr.

I so dread doing that. It took me forever to find him.

I watched Hobbit 2 last night. Really good show (if you like that kind of stuff). I was not happy with the ending, but it was a cliffhanger! LOL
