Now you tell me!

They sound sooooo pretty though. It's a shame they are so mean. I'm thinking about looking into Midget Whites. Of course, I could probably do Cornish crosses and get birds that dress out about the same size. I guess I need to decide if I want to try hatching/keeping my own flock of meat birds going, which means I would lean towards the smaller white turkeys that can reproduce naturally, or just order chicks from a hatchery to grow and stock our freezer. I'm not having the best of luck with hatching, if the hatch in the incubator doesn't work out, that might make the choice for me!

I was afraid once the toms hit maturity they might try to mate a chicken hen and hurt her, so we've been keeping an eye on them but at only 8 weeks, we should have awhile. I'm concerned they are going to hurt the smaller breed turkeys but since they've been raised together, they are pretty much stuck at the hip. The BR's aren't near as aggressive or large as the DBB. Its my fault for not securing the little guys more and keeping them inside but its such a beautiful day (well, for chicks that need 95-100* temps beautiful!).
from what we saw it looked like they just peaked them both to death

but the ones i'm going to be raising are the Narragansett turkeys so i think that may be the difference because my grams raised the BBW turkeys

So I had plans from a week ago to pick up a 2 month old Black Orp rooster today. Despite what happened with ShadowKat today I picked him up. He seems to either think he is water fowl, and he has never seen any before coming to my house, or he likes to swim. Ever seen a swimming rooster? This was a first for me.

Sorry for the nasty water. That's what happens when 8 geese and 7 ducks get through with 3 kiddie pools at the end of the day. They all get cleaned and refilled daily.
we always put out small kiddy pools out for my grams chickens some would step in them but most wouldn't

Question...During construction today my currently brooding hen Nell got riled and pooped on her eggs. I wiped them the best I could with a dry cloth. I was afraid to wash them in any way because that would remove the bloom. I haven't candled these eggs yet she's only been on them 8 days but thinking positive I didn't want to do more harm than good but they were so nasty she wouldn't sit them. They are still kinda dirty with dry poo but she's back on them. Did I do right or could I wash them without harm.
if you are going to wash them use a mild iodine soultion like 30% iodine 70% water to do so. but if you can get away with not washing them don't just keep an eye out on hatching day and remove the egg shells as soon as the chicks hatch to avoid them getting sick

What breed of cocks are they? My neighbor has game chickens and his cock kills any and all of his sons once they reach a certain age. But I have also herd of young cocks being raised together being able to live together if there were enough hens. They were not game cocks, but neither are mine, I have a 2 month old black Orpington cockerel and a 5 month old black Austrolorp X white leghorn cockerel.

I have Javas. They are quite "vigorous".
