very nice and perfect for the girls!
We are so excited to be adding to our flock. I am glad I checked through here when we got serious about getting new Ladies...who knows what kind of mess Craigslist could be for newbies like us.

That's nice, I'm sure the girls will love it!

The original owners of this doghouse used it as a coop too, before they ended up with "too many birds". It had been cleaned out and taking up space in their yard ever since. Glad to know it worked well for them. I'm sure it'll work just as well, if not better, for us.

We inherited our original Ladies from a neighbor, who said he handled them often...but they never really took to being caught (they didn't mind being held, but you had to catch 'em first) until they started squatting for us. We sit in their yard, or on the back porch while they free-range, and talk to them, feed them snacks, let them know we're their friends...but if these girls aren't snuggly, we won't be offended. As long as our Ladies and your Girls get along (in the long run), that's all we can really ask for. That...and more eggs! Ha-ha!

Also, since they don't have a "lid" to their yard, we keep our Ladies' wings clipped. We learned early on with the original Ladies that they can and will "fly the coop" to perch on our neighbor's tree. So, for their safety, and our peace of mind, they get clipped. None of them appear to mind, so as long as it works that is our method for keeping everyone home. Otherwise, they will be spoiled rotten here.

oh I understand! These girls are not snuggly, but seem to get a tiny bit better as they age. They are spooky though, idk why, but I think they should calm more as they get older and start laying.

Congrats! You scored big! I never find deals like that!

I found this bad boy on Craigslist for $25 & thought to myself, "this would make a perfect 2nd coop!". My husband doubted it would fit in my van, but I had faith... :p

Here it is, snug as a bug in a rug in my van. :) It took two people to get it in there, so I'll wait for my husband to get home to help me unload it. :p

I want to add a run to it, and a door, and then it should be all set. WooHoo! :D

Normally, I don't either...which is why I JUMPED at it. Perfect timing, too, since we were just discussing/planning adding to our flock (which would require an additional coop). Once the doghouse/coop is complete, we'll get our new girls and all should be Hunky Dory!

@TherryChicken - This is our "Chicken Yard"...It's a 400sqft fenced off section of our back yard. This is an old pic, back when we first got the coop & flock (which originally came with 5 ducks, that @Starfire669 now has). Since we no longer have the pool, I'm thinking the doghouse/coop would go there (directly under a shade tree). With it's own attached run, the Ladies can get to know the Girls before they are fully integrated. I'm so excited! So is my husband, I can tell...he likes building things, and this gives him something to build. Ha-ha! Our daughter (she's 4yrs-old) learned with the Ladies that our chickens aren't snugglers, so she's stopped trying to catch/hold them...but she does enjoy getting to pet the Ladies now that they squat for us.
